Creepy Atmosphere, Poor Perspective

The game looks gorgeous, and hits the right notes for the mood it's trying to portray. Felt genuinely creepy & eerie. Except for those moments where you fall into a pit even though you were sure you could make that jump. The game has a problem with perspective. It's in 3D space, but has a fixed camera like it's a 2D platformer, and very little in the way of indications of where objects are in relation to other objects, so you'll often find yourself hitting obstacles that you thought you'd clear, or missing jumps you thought you'd make. There was one section where all I had to do was walk in a straight line, and managed to die 3 times because I accidentally stepped too far to one side of the pipe I was walking across, because it's hard to know if you're centered when you only see the side of the object. This makes for poor gameplay, which is a shame, since this game is reliant entirely on gameplay and art direction for it's charm, as story is a very thin veneer. You just need to survive each room and make it to the next, until you find yourself at the end of the game. Your motivations and backstory are left to your imagination. Although, It does manage to maintain its wonderful atmosphere throughout the game, but seeing as I completed the game in under 3 hours, it shouldn't have been in any danger of wearing out its welcome regardless. I also had some problems with the scripting physics in the game. After one cut scene, a monster left the room and knocked over a cage. There was an object I needed to reach, but couldn't. I tried standing on the knocked over cage, and it was still out of reach. After exhausting all options, I restarted from my last checkpoint, and this time, the monster did not knock over the cage, and I could just drag it to the right place and stand on it to reach the object that I couldn't before. This seems like a QA fail. Overall though, I did enjoy the game, but at $25 CAD @ full price, I'd recommend waiting for a sale if you're interested.

Fantastic game made of quality and care

Little Nightmares is a great game, this game + the DLC I have played twice within a week of each other as I had so much fin the first time and was fun to explore around. Total time of thsi is 16.5 hours (Main game taking 4.5 hours, and the DLC just over 4 hours), many prople probably wouldn't play the game as slowly as this but I felt a need to explorer everywhere and spend more time amongst the atmosphere and design of the game even if there is a chance nothing in some areas. If someone wants to just rush through and need every detail explained to build up the story you may not enjoy the game as much and see it as too short. The main game is a short one but I have observed every part of the level, or as much as I could so far, and there are lots of hidden pieces of information that build up the story and situation. A lot of objects can be interacted with and the animations are very smooth and had no issues. The soundtrack is very nicely done and the general atmosphere of the game has had a lot of care and attention added to it, fromt he sound effects and how you interact with object it's all got subtle hints of quality, a minor one is water bouncing off your raincoat, while a small thing has more immersion when moving around. Art style is unique and consistent and one of my favourite aspects and mtches with the atmosphere part along. I don;t really get scared by games much, including this one, but what I will say is every monster encounter does give me a very tense feeling, and sometimes rushing in a panic will actually get you caught easier. The enemy designs are very good, especially what you see the first and second main enemy. So overall it's a unique experience I enjoyed twice and I could probably play a third time happily, but I won't as I don't want to end up memorising everythign too much and ruining it. I will say I died as many time the second time as I did the first time but on different parts so it was still good.

My favorite game from 2017

First off the atmosphere is the main selling point of this game for me. I personally feel that there are influences from people like Henry Selick, Tim Burton and even Hayao Miyazaki. The mix of being kinda childish yet dark and horror inspired is really cool. The music and soundscape really fits the world that they created for this game. Short but sweet. The game is somewhat short but it's quality that matters. It's one of those games that you can re-visit because it doesn't take you over 40 hours to play through.

Un bon petit jeu.

"Little Nightmares" est un jeu de plates-formes et d'énigmes à la direction artistique très travaillée. L'ambiance est horrifique et pesante tout au long de ce périple, car notre héros du nom de "Six", devra effectuer un périple afin de sauver sa vie; qui voudrait se faire dévorer !? Graphisme. - Les environnements et personnages sont plutôt variés et très bien modélisés, dans le jeu de base comme dans les DLC. Même si l'univers général est très sombre (ce qui se comprend), tout est très beau. Scénario. - Sur ce point, c'est comme la direction artistique : très sombre. Par contre, on nous laisse plus de questions que de réponses; c'est à mon sens dommage. Gameplay. - Très simple à prendre en main (manette XboxSeries pour ma part), mais il manque de précision; ce qui peut faire rager par moments. Petit bémol, on ne peut pas désactiver les vibrations de la manette dans les options du jeu. - Outre le principe du jeu de plateformes, il faudra entre autres résoudre des casse-tête (pas très compliqués), se cacher, et courir/nager au plus vite pour fuir des monstres. Cela paraît simple dit comme ça, mais il y a tout de même une difficulté assez "correcte". Bande-son. - Tout colle parfaitement, mais les musiques sont clairement en retrait. En effet, le jeu se base surtout sur l'ambiance plutôt que la musique. On aime ou pas, mais pour ma part j'ai adoré, et y jouer tard le soir fus encore mieux pour m'immerger. Contenu. - Ayant pris mon temps, il m'a fallu 8h00 pour faire le tour de ce jeu. C'est un peu court à mon goût, mais vu le prix c'est correct. - Second bémol (pour certains), "Little Nightmares" est un jeu linéaire. De fait, sa rejouabilité est très limité; même avec les objectifs secondaires de chaque niveaux. Bref. Non sans défaut, c'est pour moi un très bon petit jeu; pour qui aime ce type d'univers.

Très sympa

Un jeu très sympa, qui a des petites vibes d'Inside et du Voyage de Chihiro par moment. Le jeu est cool, même si les contrôles sont parfois un peu pénibles (comme dans n'importe quel jeu 3D avec des plans de caméra fixe j'ai envie de dire) et que les touches sont bizarrement attribuées à la manette (j'ai pas vérifié si on pouvait réattribuer). L'ambiance est top, c'est le gros point fort du jeu, le reste est au service de l'ambiance et marche très bien. C'est pas un jeu qui construit un univers autour de résolution d'énigmes et de phases de plateformes (genre Portal) mais bien un jeu qui se sert de phases de plateforme et de résolution d'énigmes pour poser une ambiance. Perso j'ai passé une soirée très agréable à le faire. J'achèterai peut-être les DLC pour y revenir un de ces quatre.
