Life is easy in the magical kingdom of Daventry, at least so long as the Graham family is at its helm. The wonderful, surreal land, filled with fantasy creatures and untold wonders, is just waiting to reveal its secrets to you, if you so wish. Take part in the adventure of Princess Rosella, trying to save her father from certain death. Help the brave King retake his family and castle from the hands of the ruthless wizard Mordack, then join Prince Alexander in finding and saving his significant other in the Land of the Green Isles.
Discover the story behind three titles from the King's Quest saga - one of the most famous adventure game series released by Sierra. Let yourself become enthralled by the incredible atmosphere created by Roberta Williams, who drew inspiration from fairy tales and stories like The Beauty and the Beast, Baba Yaga and many more. The Grahams need your help, so don't fear, brave adventurer, and embark on a journey of your dreams.
Some of the reviews mention that it only includes the basic version and not the enhanced CD-ROM. It looks like this was added after the fact, so this review is just to say that YES it's the right one with all the great speech and art.
One of the greatest games of all time, they simply don't make them like this anymore. Very much enjoying replaying one of the best games from my childhood.

I write this solely as a review for King's Quest VI. This was the first 'proper PC' game I ever played, and I've never forgotten it - and now I don't have to! GOG, or moreover the people they work with to make the magic happen, have yet again done a stellar job of ensuring that this game works perfectly on the train wreck they call "Windows 10".
I'm unsure as to why anyone is saying the enhanced edition of the game is included - by default this IS the enhanced edition. I clearly remember the original version of this game and the portraits were a lot more basic than what you will see.
This is the game that first made me love point and click adventure games and that love remains to this day. The details and thought and love ploughed into this game by Sierra is abundant - pretty much every single thing you click on in nearly every single scene prompts the narrator to say something about it - a level to which was not seen before, and is mostly lacking since. The story is of course a great one, voice acting is well above average, and sound effects, for the time, are very well executed. The backgrounds are beautiful and hand painted and for the time the animations are great. All is perfection, right? Not quite. There is but ONE potentially game breaking puzzle (not to be confused with a "bug") whereby if you don't pick up an item from The Land of the Dead, which you can only access ONCE, you won't ever be able to finish the game. This is why I say "potentially" - as it would only break the game if you don't pick up the item.
Other than this, if you want to see what point and click adventure games were like when the developer threw EVERYTHING they had at them, without corners cut or slack production values, look no further.
It's nice to play some gokq (good old kings quest)!
First, lets talk about installing KQ IV V VI. It installs the three games, DosBox, and the shortcuts to your desktop for each game. The shortcut icons look pretty nice too. Then it's as simple as clicking the icon to play. I had no worries here about configuring DosBox to get these games running. This was a plus, as I pretty much knew these were dos games and I didn't want to have to fiddle to get them running.
This series was one of the coolest series of adventure gaming then and now. It's also what got me into playing games on the pc back in the early 90's. I found it interesting that there were options in the game which could cause you to end the game early, if you made a wrong decision. Sierra (original creators of KQ) was known for this. So make sure to save often and not to the same file (over writing).
So, to sum up. It installs fine and plays just like it use to, back in the Ms-dos days. Just make sure when you're ready to play KQ IV, you switch to window mode (Alt + Enter) because you'll need to read text from the manual and enter it into the game (this was the copy protection they used for this game).
Most people hail King's Quest VI as the best adventure game - EVER. For me, it's KQIV, KQIV has the whole "night and day" time shifting it does (first time in any Sierra game) and finally puts a heroine at the helm of the adventure!
King's Quest V - has Cedric. If you've played... you know. Cedric is King's Quest JarJar Binks.
King's Quest VI has some AMAZING story telling, some fantastic music and some great characters - the first time you really keep interacting with the same characters over and over to make the world feel far more alive.
King's Quest is the pinnacle of 80s/90s adventure gaming. While these 3 games were made in the early to mid 90s, they still carried the same feel and great story of the original 3 games. You play as a member of the royal family depending on the game. All 3 ran fine on my 2021 system using Windows 11. Here are my thoughts on each game:
KQ4: You play as Princess Rosella. The overall story is similar to Wizard of Oz, but many other fantasy stories are woven into the game. This game also introduced different elements to a screen depending on if it was day or night. This was the first KQ game to have the parser interface that pops up and pauses while you type an action (the first 3 did not pause the game). VGA graphics with less blocky characters made a great improvement.
KQ5: You play as King Graham for the 3rd time. I found the owl companion to be really annoying and distracting to the story, so he was a big minus. This game added voice over if you wished to make it active (I never did because the owl voice is annoying too). This game has a few of the most annoying sequences though in the desert and ocean events. You just have to do trial and error (or use a walkthrough) to find a specific place in each one. The story ties loosely to KQ3 and was descent overall.
KQ6: Considered the best of the series. You play as Prince Alexander for a second time. This game has an Aladdin feel to it and introduced different paths you could take to solve and complete the game (unheard of in adventure games in the mid-90s). Good sound track and voice over was also included. Depending on what you did throughout the game, the ending would be different as well. I remember the numerous floppy disks I had to keep swapping over and over again when switching areas.
Overall, I would highly recommend these 3 to include with the original 3. They are more in depth and feature a richer storyline. Classic 90s gaming at its best.
