Kingpin: Life of Crime

I forgot how fun this game really is. It had many cool features back in the day when it came out that most FPSs these day must include if they want to be the best. The game features some limited but fun interaction with NPCs, an original soundtrack (by Cypress Hill no less) and fast paced, frantic action. Oh and some awesome easter eggs from the Big Lewbowski and Pulp Fiction!

I loved this game... from the music to the "trash talking" simulation. walking up to random people, acting all calm, then all of a sudden snapping at them and pulling out your gun is just CLASSIC... This game is too fun to pass up. ;)

Kingpin, un jeu que je n'avais jamais fait à l'epoque de sa sortie, je suis completement passé à coté ! Et quand j'ai vu la nouvelle version ( sur Steam du coup ) qui est très mal noté. Alors oui c'est vraiment un excellent jeu, pas facile à prendre en main, je vous recommande quelques vidéos de let's play juste pour le début histoire de vous familiariser avec le jeu pour voutre mettre dans le bain, perso j'ai galérer au début. Il vous faudra avant 2 patchs indispensable pour cette version : le premier le patch non offciels qui vous permettra de configurer le jeu avec les supports moderne ainsi qu'un patch FR, je vais mettre un post dans le forum avec les 2 liens puisque je n'arrive pas à publier mon commentaire avec les liens. Voila j'espére que vous kifferez ce jeu et que vous vous amuserez dessus comme moi je m'eclate de mon coté ! Sur bon jeu à vous ( et n'oubliez pas de regarder le forum ).

I like it's grunge and edgy setting, as well as the concept of having to play as a low level grunt - who wishes to work his way up the food chain. Sadly the game feels unfinished and the gameplay is more akin to a slow-paced and stodgy strategy game, than that of an action FPS. I'd argue that this title resembles as an immersive sim more, than just being an action FPS. This game has potential and runs flawlessly on modern systems when patched, but I think you're better off at playing Soldier of Fortune 1. (2.5/5)

Non-existent story and childish attempts at being mature aside, it's a genuinely solid retro shooter that introduced some interesting ideas for the time. The sidekick A.I. isn't perfect and gets stuck sometimes, which may be annoying but for the most part, it works fine and these guys are actually helpful in combat. Optional objectives and ability to interact with NPCs is also pretty cool but I thought it was under-utilized. Probably the first optional mission is the most intricate way this whole system was implemented but as soon as you acquire some useful guns, side activities become very rare and you'll be spending most of your time squeezing gats till the clip is empty. Regardless, it's an entertaining Quake 2-era FPS which deserves its place among the classics of the genre. The very same studio was later renamed to Gray Matter and went on to make an excellent Return To Castle Wolfenstein and you can feel some of this game in Kingpin.
