Kingpin: Life of Crime

I normally wait until I finish a game to review it. Kingpin didn't give me that option. Why? A stupid door that wouldn't open. Yes, I know I could have cheated (which is an ordeal in itself on Win7), but if i am forced to, then the game has failed. It's story is a been-there-done-that tale of revenge that makes absolutely no sense when it transitions from one place to another. (Why the hell am I going to the docks?! Didn't the guy I want to kill just drive away?) Graphically, this could've just been a Quake mod and society at large wouldn't have to suffer knowing this existed as a retail product. The moral of the story: "Just because it has guns, doesn't mean it's fun."

Kingpin uses the excellent quake 2 engine and is quite well made, the design succeeds in creating a grim urban environment filled with various types of inner city scum, and various weaponry to unleash upon them as well. The game is quite engaging and I especially enjoyed feeling as if I was an outsider, creeping through the wood work of this dingy realm, dispatching various scumbags that got in my way, and taking their wallets. However, there are some things that I don't like about this game, mostly to do with the weaponry. First of all, the guns are instant hit, which doesn't make any sense at all and is quite unrealistic. If an enemy is a long distance and fires a gun at me, I should be able to dodge out the way, but not in this game. The enemy does not seem to miss either, which makes the game too hard and is absolutely no fun. Instead of fighting hollywood style gun battles you'll be cursing as your health meter runs down to nothing, and this game has very little health or ammo. Some might point out that this is more of an adventure game, but it's not, it's just an FPS with an urban theme. Also, the guns are not powerful enough when firing in close quarters. I did enjoy the tommy gun, however, and even used that sound to replace the machine gun in other quake based games like half life. Over all, worth buying for the low price here, but it's definitely a bargain bin game rather than a "classic."

Game doesent work on win 10- dont buy

can anybody verify that this runs on windows 7????

This game is horrible. You start off with worthless weapons, so much so that I had to cheat to make the game playable, and I've been playing shooters for over 10 years. With the pistol and shotgun you'll have to shoot enemies about 10 times. Strafing is worthless it seems, you'll get hit the same strafing as you would standing still, which is always. Level design was better in the original Wolfenstein 3d. Nothing interesting happens in the game, at all, ever. The swearing and all that might have been innovative in 99 but is meaningless now. The following GOG shooters are decent to excellent: unreal gold, unreal tournament, unreal tournament 2004, unreal 2, rainbow 6, ghost recon, shogo, serious sam, postal 2, duke nukem 3d, far cry, redneck rampage. Play all of these before Kingpin. Actually don't play Kingpin at all. After having played it I wouldn't even download it for free.
