The gameplay sucks!
The non mechanics gameplay elements, such as the story, music etc are all very nice. A lot of reviews claim it's realistic. It's not! You are stuck in place while swinging a weapon; npc enemies can run around and move freely while still attacking. Not only is this not realistic, it's outright stupid! Realistic is when you swing a weapon off-balances you, meaning you cannot move while doing it. Melee has direction attack and blocking, but it's not worth anything more then a mention, as it doesn't make the game any better or worse by itself. You can set it to auto for direction for easier blocking and attacking. But no matter what you set it to, the enemies will auto block all your attacks. The enemy can teleport you from outside their attack range to do melee attacks on you! Related: Enemies in full heavy armour can outrun your character in nothing but cloth. The archery is just annoying. The devs set the game up to HIDE the targetting reticule when you draw the bow. The is another stupid thing that's the opposite of realistic. When you practice archery in real life, you essentially have a giant red dot on anything you target and as you gain experience, that dot gets smaller, indicating your knowledge and experience of where the arrow is going to go. This is the trend throughout the game, almost as if the devs were trying to make the game as onerous and annoying as possible. Want a lockpick? Pay as much as a low end sword to get a single one. Want to heal yourself? You can't; you also don't regenerate. The map implies theres fast travel; but in the first few hours I've been playing, it's been locked out. This games mechanics detract from experiencing the story. I can't see anyone honestly enjoying these mechanics. Normal game mechancs are an adaptation between real life and providing in game additions that simulate what you would have in real life; the targetting reticule on archery is one that's very obvious to anyone who's done archery in real life.
