More than worth it

Very close to finishing it, but I highly encourage it. I rarely go out of my way to review things, but I just felt compelled to make an exception in this case. All around, one of the most fun and brutal games I've ever played, with super tight controls and overall gameplay. The real kicker for me was the soundtrack, I'd compare it in many ways to Furi, where you have intense gameplay with sounds that just urge you forwards at a breakneck pace. Really out of this world experience. I hesitated a lot before buying this game because I thought it might be too hard for me (I'm kinda trash at games), but compared to Souls games or even games like Hollow Knight, I'd say this game is much more approachable. Even the hardest sections allow for a great deal of creativity, which was something I wasn't expecting. Nothing ever felt linear or forced. All in all, highly recommended, and I can't wait for more from this guy.

Sweet, but very short.

So, I expected a side-scrolling Hotline Miami and Katana Zero delivered on that. What I didn't expect, with so many 5 star reviews, is a 2-4 hour game. Like HM, K0 have some cryptic story, fluid engaging gameplay, cool art style and music, but beyond one story mode run there is little to nothing for you to do. Most of the levels feel the same and there are not that many of them. There are speedrun mode, harder difficulty and some secret swords, but that's just replaying the same ten levels over and over.

When the mix of mechanics and story is just right

(Have this on Switch, so this is more of a review of the game itself than it is this specific version.) Great aesthetic and fun (ultra-violent) gameplay which integrates seamlessly into the story without breaking your immersion. The closest games to this I've played would be Hotline Miami (frantic violence & retro look) and Dead Cells (for the tight platformer handling) Only willing to dock this game any credit for it's brevity, but this is definitely is worth the $15 price of admission regardless. Recommend going in blind, so try to avoid any walkthroughs or playthroughs unless you get stuck

One of the best games I have ever played

Katana Zero is one of the best games I have ever played in my entire life. Sure I haven't played a large amount of games (175 games owned across platforms), but this is one of the best for sure. The story is intriguing and had me hooked, the gameplay was amazing. The gameplay is some of the funnest I have played. Its diffucult but a fun kind of diffucult. The visuals and sound of the game are amazing too. The graphics are incredble. Not realistic, but with the only pixels they did a great job. The music in this game is outstanding. Me and my friends listen to the soundtrack almost every day. Its a great fit for the gameplay of the game. An easy reccomend. 5/5.

Excellent

Ce jeu est une tuerie (dans tous les sens du terme) Un scénario qui distille judicieusement les informations et donne envie d'en savoir plus à chaque chapitre, un gameplay jouissif, très nerveux, mais qui en même temps prends parfois des allures de casse-tête pour trouver le meilleur ordre dans lequel tuer les ennemis, le meileur moment pour utiliser certains objets etc Aussi une bonne rejouabilité, notamment avec le mode speedrun et toutes les configurations différentes qu'il offre Il est assez dur, surtout la première fois, certains pourraient y voir un défaut, mais pour ceux qui aiment qu'un jeu leur résiste c'est un bon challenge Devolver a encore sorti une pépite, et j'attends la suite avec impatience !
