Fun budget Judge Dredd shooter

I actually played this game quite sometime before I began reading the comic books, or rather the collections that they released of certain storylines in the Judge Dredd universe, and I had a lot of fun shooting the punks, zombies, vampires and other nasties you encounter in Mega-City One. Not to mention, Toby Longworth who did the voice for Dredd in the game delievers an outstanding performance as the Law himself. Of course, you being a Judge means that you MUST uphold the law and thus you simply can't go around and kill any perp you see, you gotta make them give up by either shooting the guns out of their hands, toss a gas grenade or just make them give up with Dredd saying things like "There's ISO cube with your name on it", "Stop in the name of the law!" and other phrases that might sometimes work into forcing the perps giving up without a struggle, which doesn't happen often by the way. And of course you also have the iconic Lawgiver pistol that every Judge is equipped with, that also comes with several firemodes including ricochet, incendinary, hi explosive and others that can provide a much needed edge in the battle against the lunatics that roam the city. If you're a fan of the Judge Dredd comics and wanted something that is true to the comic books, then you really gotta check this game out as it offers just that.

Well worth your money

Sure, the single player "story mode" is short, but no shorter than that of Quake. And like Quake, you don't really need an awfully long single player "campaign". And this game has a lot of extra content! You can play the story mode in cooperative multiplayer. And then we have "arcade mode", where you complete various missions and aim for the highest rating. Not that you don't get ratings in "story mode", you do. And high ratings unlock more multiplayer skins. And... You can play against AI controlled bots in multiplayer. Rather uncommon when it comes to FPS games that aren't Unreal Tournament or Quake III Arena. There are bots in Unreal and in Duke Nukem 3D Atomic Edition (well hidden, you have to activate them with a command line prompt). Either way, bots are not common and it's fun to see them here. The industrial/EBM soundtrack is nice too, avalible for download with this game. So, yes, you do get a lot of content when you buy this game. But what kind of game is it? Well, for the most part it feels very old-school (which I LIKE). You circle strafe monsters and jump like a bunny to avoid getting hit. But you also fight humans, and then the game feels more modern. Then you duck behind covers instead of circle strafing, and you tactically take out the hostile ones. Then you arrest the ones who surrender. If you ask me, these changes in gameplay make the game more varied. Bottom line: Buy this game if you want some shooty fun!

Une bonne surprise

Les graphismes accusent un sacré coup de vieux, à son époque, ce jeu ne faisait pas partie des plus beaux. Cependant, j'ai trouvé l'arrière-plan (la ville vue de loin) plutôt joli. Tout comme son ambiance, on se sens bien dans une ville du future qui a mal tournée. Il y a du sang et des impacts, c'est cool. Le gameplay est très classique même si peut-être est-ce un bug mais je ne pouvais pas sauter en me déplaçant, c'est comme si j'étais collé au sol. Étrange. J'ai été témoin de bugs pas très handicapants... Enfin quand même, c'est une sacrée technique qu'ils ont trouvé ces sacripants : certains se tenait sur ma tête ! Impressionnant ! Ce n'est pas un bug mais : pas de corps visible quand on baisse le regard et pas d'ombre... Arx Fatalis (2002) avait fait l'effort ; aucune excuse. Point sur l'arme : vous avez un pistolet qui a plusieurs options : ricochet, explosif, perforants, incendiaire, thermique (tête chercheuse) et normal. Cool ! Maintenant : oubliez-les. Elles sont inutiles ! Je me suis juste servi des perforantes vers la fin. Pas exploité ! L'histoire est clichée : un méchant avec des zombis... Je connais un peu l'univers de Dredd : il y avait tellement moyen de faire mieux ! Le film avec Stallone a une meilleure histoire... C'est dire ! La difficulté n'est pas élevée : fini en moins de 5 heures. Le concept d'arrêté les gens est sympa mais ça ne va pas très loin, globalement, vous pouvez foutre tout le monde en taule (j'aurai trouvé hilarant qu'on puisse le faire avec les otages). Niveau bande son : la musique est correct tout comme la VF qui est trouvable sur le net (certains sonnent plus comme des robots, c'est assez gênant... Tout comme les pubs Red Bull présentent dans certains niveaux). J'ai bien aimé les pointes d'humours avec les décalages entre les annonces dans les lieux et ce qui se passe réellement. Dredd vs Death est un jeu sympathique, il est cependant dommage qu'on ai pas d'autre de cet univers, il y a moyen de faire quelque chose !

absolutely sooo much fun still! in 2025!

tons of fun here... - "justice" management via the meter that raises or lowers depending on how you treat criminals(arresst or kill) - the power of the weapons, especially the "lawgiver" feel nice... though the jumping is a bit... terrible lol, but there are no platforming sections or anything so it's not really an issue. - the AI in regards to the judges... eh(it was the early 2000s). - the story is so over the top in the bet way, again though... this is a story from the early 2000s for a fps that puts fun first. - catchphrase galore... - runs smooth... but... its 2025, why shouldnt it lol. ***major note, if your having direct 3d issues, install/setup the hd patch and launch the game from that. you can set up galaxy to launch the patch which launches the game through a resolution setup window. a must play for fans of fun arcade shooters.

A fun and stylish shooter

"Dredd vs. Death" may not have pushed any boundaries as far as shooters go but in the end it's a well made game that is fun to play. The graphics weren't high-end even when the game was new but it looks good due to the excellent comic book art design. The gameplay is smooth, the shooting is fun and you progress through the game at a good pace.
