If I could give it a 6, I would

I played these out of order, so jumped into this one with no idea about the events of the earlier two games. It didn't really matter. No matter how many great graphic adventure games come out, this will always be in my top tier. Really, it's up there with The Longest Journey (the original game). Where Buried in Time takes you to a number of historical settings, this one takes you to the (probably) mythical realms of Atlantis, El Dorado and Shangri-la. Where, in Buried in Time, you had to stay out of sight in your time travel suit, the one in Legacy allows you to take "photos" of different NPCs and then morph to them at will. This adds a really interesting tier to the puzzle solving, as some NPCs will only give certain information to you when you appear as certain other NPCs. And Arthur, your companion AI. OMG, he sets the bar for robotic sidekicks, or sidekicks in general. I literally could not get through the Syberia series because this is who I was expecting the robotic sidekick to be. This and Buried in Time have excellent replay value not because there are different ways to get through the game but because the worlds (and Arthur's constant wisecracks) are so vividly imagined, you will want to experience them again and again.

EXCELLENT!

I love this game i love it! i used to own the cd's but they unfortunatly got destroyed and oh the sadness when i saw tht the game couldnt be found ANYWHERE.. thank to gog.com i finally get to play it again! i love you gog.com!

The best in the series

Playing this as I child I was both entertained and intrigued for more knowledge by this game. There lots of hammy acting like any fmv game, but the game is pretty, has an interesting premise and is very accessible due to your friendly, witty and slighly annoying ai helper. I have played the game through several times and it is not to be missed. Whether this or exile is the best presto game is hard to say, but of the pc journeyman project games this is by far the best.

There is Zen in this game

I bought this game around 1999 in a discount shop and played it on my Mac since it was multi-platform (PC/Mac), which was a rare feature at that time. To tell it you straight, I was baffled by the atmosphere and the feeling I even dared to email Presto with a long mail titled "Like a walk in the forest". I wasn't aware of the first two episodes but everything was roughly explained in the rather long fuzzy introduction, then boom, sent in the past. The first sequences are after the aliens destroyed everything, you discover a ravaged surrounding using puzzles based on logic and physic. You go through the four environments of the game then return to the base (in the future) with your discoveries, are briefed again and then only the real game begins. And then only you discover the true depth of that gem. You return to each place a few hours before the alien assault and have to fetch the artifacts before they gets stolen. You won't be able to do anything for the numerous people you'll encounter. Not only you'll start empathizing with them (dude, I thought it was only a game) but you'll love to travel from place to place, discover what the creators of this game built with a passion. The narrative, the jokes (Arthur can be "tamed down" if necessary), the historic background, everything is made so like you feel you are part of that mythological ancient times for a little while. Despite the age of the game, everything still looks entitled with a mission to make you be a part of it, to feel it and for it. Now playing on Windows 7 and not having to swap between 6 (!) CDs, I can return in that journey through time, minus the visual bugs and those that makes the game crash. It's still an emotion to play this game that bear no "violence", no "sexuality", but true humanism in its DNA. I still praise Presto Studios for having put so much guts into this underrated gem, making it well balanced yet not too easy. If only a great movie could be made out of this game (or serie).

Reflections

Not the best of the series but an epic.

This is sadly the final game in the Journeyman series. There was due to be a fourth, and I did e-mail Presto Studios upon hearing the rumours, and they replied saying they hope it gets finished but alas, we're unlikely to ever see that happen now Presto are gone. But to the game itself. This is an extremely impressive game on it's own - you don't need to have played the first 2 - although 2 is my absolutely favourite by a long way. The movement is very fluid in this game, and the FMV is very good quality - and also well acted. The thing that tries very hard to bring this game down but thankfully overall fails to, is the AWFUL 'amusing sidekick' in the form of the little robot assistant inside your bio suit. Pretty much all of his hilarious 'jokes' will sink like a lead balloon with you and you'll just wish he wasn't there. But learn to bear him, as this game has some really inspiring moments and some really nice escapism. I never really found myself wishing that it wasn't all seen through a little letterbox format - because that's all entirely within context - you're inside a big metal suit - you're not going to have uninhibited views. You get the full 360 degree look around still though - and you'll want to - the scenery is often quite beautiful. I strongly recommend this game for all the extra stuff you can learn about things like the Wheel of Life, and all the time zones, which you can travel to and from more or less at will. A great end to a very unique and well thought out series. There's certainly never been anything like this since.
