How does this compares to JA2 1.12

Having played quite a lot, here is the quick sum up. - Wildfire 5 was initial release and differs quite minimal from JA2 1.12. That is the release when publisher refused to pay money. Its freely available for download, but hardly worth attention. - Wildfire 6 (this one), is much heavily modified and is in fact something of its own. There are 6.04 and 6.08 patches with latest one hardening the game even further. Basically WF6 is a integrated MODIFICATION for Ja2 1.12, that is sold as dedicated product. Now how do 1.12 and WF6 compare: - JA2 1.12 is the base for extensive amount of modifications by player community, including Arulco revisited + which INCLUDES support for big maps found in Wildfire 6 and v.1.13. You can mod Jagged Alliance 2 1.12 You can't mod WF6 (this one). - in JA 1.13 a lot of things can be modded and adjusted. In WF6 - not. Here is the list of what bothered me by a lot: -- enemy drop sanitizer is active and not tuneable. That means in WF6 enemies will shoot you with SVDs and leave pistols on the ground. You can try to GRAB the weapon from their hand, but this is extremely hard. -- built-in weapon shop (Bobby Rays) is not adjustable. Means, you can say so-long to any stealth or hi-explosive tactics. BR will sell very few items and also mostly useless compared to your current progress. -- camouflage plays nearly no role. Enemies will still detect you. Since you will mostly encounter 3-5 silenced weapons past your WHOLE teamplay, who needs this, right? -- enemy ammo drop is very minimal. You will not be firing in bursts, that is. Forget LMGs. -- two top mercs were replaced by german versions for really no reason. -- loot was extremely reduced in 6.08. + they changed Ira's face. Thats one of the rebels you can join. Yes, this is actually big improvement really, but... she is optional. Needless to say that mods this everything plus a lot more. And that comes only as addition to 1.12. You are stuck with this one.

Not worth it.

If you're looking to buy this game, then you probably own the original Jagged Alliance 2. If you do, and want to experience the new maps and content, get the AIMNAS mod, installable on top of the famous 1.13. (version 21 is the latest complete one so far). If you don't, buy the original, play through it once (or just play enough to get a handle on the controls and stuff), and then install 1.13 and/or another of the numerous mods. You'll get better quality and more content for less money. Don't buy Wildfire.

Not as good as the orignal JA2

Hi, I tried JA 2 Wilfire and think it's not as good as the original JA2. There are a few reasons: - It has the same story as the original - The game is harder then JA 2. I my opinion too hard, so you need more luck than skill. - It has a specific resolution which can't be changed. So maybe it doesn't fit to your screen and you have a black boarder on the right side of your screen. On the left side the screen is cut off. - It has no mods because the exe is encrypted. The origial JA2 has many enjoable fanmade mods and the fanmade 1.13 patch which improves the game and adds many new things. So I advise you to buy the original JA2 and install the 1.13 patch.

Just a mod of JA2 that worsens it!

Me and my brothers were rabid fans of Jagged Alliance (the entire series) and hungry for more, so I bought this as soon as it came out without reading any reviews. It was awful. The most helpful review on here goes into a lot of reasons in detail, like pretending the game takes place AFTER the original.. without changing the story except by deleting a few lines and poorly dubbing a few. The gameplay has been radically changed to be, if you're not a A+++ player, impossible, upping guard counts per fight from 6-20 to 30-120. And even if you ARE a A+++ Jagged Alliance pro, that's just TEDIOUS. These are decisions so startling stupid you probably will think you must be missing something. You're not. There are a few things that make me sad about these decisions. First is that they actually had some really good ideas. -The original had pretty limited viable weapon choices. Wildfire fixed that so there were more good rifles, and even the pistols and shotguns had their uses. But without a good game to enjoy these weapon options.. you won't notice. -the original AI made the original game a bit too easy once you figured out one or two ways to trick it, and the makers of wildfire dramatically improved the computer's tactical decisions. A shame you won't enjoy that either. And the biggest problem of all is this game is dirt cheap everywhere, and people see it and say, "Jagged Alliance?? I've heard good things about that!" and pick it up and are confused at how awful it is. They turn away after a few Game Overs in the first battles (the original eased you into the difficult combat) and say "well, I tried, Jagged Alliance just isn't for me." And that is the true shame. Do not buy this if you want the Jagged Alliance experience. Buy the :::real::: Jagged Alliance 2. And the newest 3D modeled Jagged Alliance isn't that hot either; Sir-Tech hasn't been topped yet.

Poor indeed

If you like bugs and crashes, get this and discover the glory of a reasonable facsimile of JA2, with slightly better graphics, which crashes more or less every half hour or so. And since the original makers of JA2 didn't make it, there are no patches, no DLC and nothing of any other interest. JA2 with DLC is much better and smoother, and rarely crashes. The storyline doesn't matter since it'll crash before you get there.
