Jagged Alliance 2

I have been playing Jagged Alliance 2 for over ten years. It is by far the best game of this style out there. Furthermore, a quick look at the current games industry will reveal a dark truth; that it will never be topped. Games like this just aren't getting a chance these days. In fact, the enourmous modding community behind Jagged Alliance 2 got fed up with waiting for something better... so they just did it themselves. Over ten years have passed since this game smashed our nuts in with its boots of brilliance, and the community is still growing. Head over to the Bears Pit forums and you'll see what I mean. While we are talking mods, let me give you a heads up. JA2 1.13. That's what its called. That's what you need. I cannot begin to describe the complexity that this adds to the game. Hundreds upon hundreds of new weapons, items and gear. It doesn't change the story or setting one bit. A well balanced, well thought out mod. But even without mods this is still a 5 star game. And 5 star in the real sense. Not the "Let's give it a perfect score to boost the average" sense. This is brilliant. Literally a masterpiece. If there is one game you buy in 2012, make it this one. Besides, it's 2012, we're all gonna die anyway ;).

Not much to add to other people's reviews. This is a CULT CLASSIC. Turn-based tactical to its finest, nothing before or after ever came close. Yes, not even the phenomenal X-COM series. In ten years, you will still remember fondly of that time when Ivan single-handedly held back twenty enemy troopers, or Shadow managed to conquer the entire Drassen airport by himself and without being noticed. I'll repeat myself, but this here is the stuff of legends.

JA2 is a mix of turn based combat and real time strategy. Basically you command a unit of mercenaries that you need to supply with weapons, armor, explosives and various gadgets (and ofc with money, they dont work for free:) in order to free Arulco from their oppressive bitch queen Deidriana. Map is divided to sectors and you give your orders from there. When you are in a sector area you will be able to command your mercenaries real time but whenever you see an enemy game switches to turn based combat. This is the best part of the game because combat is great (even considering game is like 15 years old). It offers good amount of flexibility and requires tactics and balanced merc squads. Game is amazing, and i think anyone who calls themselves a gamer should play this game. If you're wondering if its anything similar to pos kalypso served as a remake i'd say f**k that game and play the original. Graphics may bother you at first but if you can overlook that i swear u'll enjoy every moment of it.

Jagged Alliance 2 has got to be one of the greatest strategy games ever made. The possibilities for playthrough are nearly limitless, as you have countless mercenaries at you disposal, and you don’t have to play the campaign in any specific order. A must have for any fan of strategy- or rpg-games!
