Rif of the Fox Tribe has traveled far from home with his companion Rhene to compete in a puzzle contest. The night before the contest someone steals the wondrous Orb of Storms, an ancient relic of the Humans, and Rif is accused of being the thief. Rif is able to convince his accusers to give him a chance to find the real thief and recover the Orb. Two warriors are assigned to assist and guard Rif in his quest, Eeah of the Elk Tribe and Okk of the Boar Tribe. In addition, Rhene is held hostage by the Boar King to ensure Rif does not try to escape.
Your goal in Inherit the Earth: Quest for the Orb is to guide Rif on his adventure, find clues to locate the real thief, and solve challenges along the way. You can have Rif talk to Okk, Eeah, and other Morph characters that are encountered during Rif's travels. Rif can pick-up items he finds and give these items to others. Some will only trade information for precious items, although what a Morph considers precious can vary greatly. With your help, Rif will be able to clear his good name and rescue his beloved in this classic point-and-click fantasy adventure game!

The story and voices were not too bad, some characters and the gameplay were ok. I was disappointed with the game for the time spent travelling the maps, repeated puzzles, uninspiring ending and lack of interest the game generates the more you play. I don't recommend the game, although I liked the art and some dialogues. For fans of modern pixel art games only in my opinion.
This game is awful. I don't understand the love for it - except that some of these people must have played this crappy game as children and have some sense of nostalgia for it.
The story is fine but getting around in the game is annoying and frustrating. The field of vision is tiny. You're told to talk to everybody but most of the other characters in the game move too fast to chase down. The cursor won't keep the function you last selected, such as "talk to" - it will turn it back into walking or looking, in a random sort of way. Which makes it EVEN HARDER to talk to anyone. I can't find ANYTHING, even with a walkthrough. At one point you're supposed to go find the King of the Forest - but FOREST is not on the map. You have to know to walk to the end of one of the paths and then pixel hunt until you find the entrance to the actual forest. You need to find the hardware store in the Ferret Village, which I only know from looking up the walkthrough (again) - and I had already wandered all over that part of the map as best I could, given that I could NOT TELL where I had already been and where else I might go because so little is shown on the screen.
You'll be better off to watch someone's playthrough on youtube. Frustrating doesn't begin to cover what's wrong with this game. I love older games - LOOM, the Hero's Quest games, and similar - but this one is just so badly done when it comes to mechanics. Not fun. Not fun at all.
Inherit the Earth is a fun, charming game that's really meant for the younger set, and that's fine. Young people are not really going to be thrilled (nor will their parents) when you bust out Planescape: Torment for their entertainment. This game, on the other hand, will bring smiles all around.
I so wanted to like this game, being of the furry genere and all, but I can only give this one star simply because the mac port of this game on GOG simply just does not work. When you go to run the game, it asks you to insert the Inherit the Earth CD. Being that I got this on GOG, there is no freakin CD. What gives?
This game is one of my favorite, unfortunately I refuse to buy it at this reduced price simply because GOG doesn't support half of the systems the game works on. There is a native Linux port of this game, why doesn't GOG have it? the only way I can get it is paying almost $20 on a site that may very well not be working at all.
GOG, I am disappointed.
