Description
You are Captain Johnny "Jimbo Baby" McGibbits — The Infiltrator: ace helicopter pilot, ballistics expert, neurosurgeon, rock star, motorcycle racer, and a devil-may-care all around good guy with a nifty haircut. Your mission is to fly into the country of the Mad Leader and carry out operations which will completely disable his plans for war. Ultimately, you are to eliminate the Mad Leader himself, as surely the world doesn't need yet another man who spits when he speaks and starts all of his sentences with the word "basically."
This is a most dangerous and difficult assignment. You will be required to fly through hostile enemy airspace in what has been disguised to look like a neutral helicopter, reach several important target areas, and carry out specific missions to help destroy the Mad Leader's military force. There will be no time for acting or motorcycle racing this time. Or will there?
This was a rare "indie" NES game, but had a lot to offer. Combination flight sim and stealth game. It came out a year before Metal Gear, and you have to sneak around this facility finding ID cards and knocking out guards without setting off alarms. Not as great a game as Metal Gear by any stretch, but very innovative for the time and technology and worth checking out.
Infiltrator was one of the first NES games I owned, and one of the first gaming experiences I remember having. I was very young when my brother and I got a Nintendo for Christmas. Naturally, being so young, it took me a long time to figure out how to play the game. And I don't think I ever did finish the game, but had a whole lot of fun playing it. Gameplay was very similar (in my opinion) to Spy vs. Spy with more intricate game mechanics, some semblance of a storyline, and more realistic suspense. I'm not sure how enticing it would be to today's gaming crowd, but if you're a retro fan, an oldie or semi-oldie (like me lol), or just enjoy MS-DOS and/or Dosbox gaming, I would definitely recommend picking this one up. Like another commenter mentioned, lots of stealth mechanics, a bit of helicopter flight, some memorable moments... [SPOILER] "Where are your papers??" and scavenging enemy territory for collectibles. I consider it still a game worth playing. And want to play it again now thinking about it!
Was an improvement over the early ones, like spy vs spy or the commodore 128 game like it.
Fun way to burn time.
