A "Half Like" Episode
This game is clearly inspired by and perhaps even a homage to Half Life 2, hence the term "Half Like". I completed it in about 4 hours, and despite 3 crashes and a couple bugs, I was never bored. Think of it as an alternate world version of a Half Life 2 episode, except this time the protagonist, a young woman named Nora, is quite vocal instead of mute. Very atmospheric, with world building that leaves you with more questions than answers, in a good way. The gameplay rewards exploration and the story is a linear progression in the vein of Half Life and you to figure out where you are and what the heck has happened, with the combat being almost secondary. There are 'interludes' where you are in an alternate place, or dimension, which only add to the mystery. As the story progressed, I found myself getting more interested and invested in the character you play, as well as that of 2 others. Gameplay was not difficult, but I played it on "normal" mode as ammo and healing is plentiful, though I never did find one of the weapons. There is a hard mode which should make combat more challenging. There are a few rough edges or bugs, and the gameplay is short, and I found myself wanting to give this a 4 and 1/2 star rating. What had me round it up to 5 stars though was learning that the developer is a TINY team of 4-6 people total, with just 2 doing the bulk of the work. With that perspective, and knowing that I bought it on release day (no time for a patch), I find it absolutely worth the US $20 given how much I love Half Life 2. I think of it as analogous to HL 2 Episode 1.5 PROs: Environments, Audio/Music, Story CONS: Bugs, Save Slot System Verdict: No Regrets, Glad I bought and played it.
