Still unbeaten

First time I played Indiana Jones and the last Crusade on the Amiga 2000. Yeah, you got it ... it was shipped on 11 disks and was a pain to play. And the port was lousy as hell, you could see that LucasArts didn't put any hope in the Amiga's future. Luckily I owned a bridgeboard so after a few hours of disk swapping (even with 2 drives) I installed it on a 20 MB hard drive. Still it was nothing to look forward to, the port was lousy. A short time after that, I got my hands on a x286 and one of the first things I did was to get this game and play it. What a revelation. Sure, the sound and music quality sucked (I was used to Amiga music which was the best at the time), but the rest was great. Years later, when I finally got a Soundblaster card (and later a Maestro for General Midi), the first thing I did was of course play this game again. Now with acceptable music quality it was even better. At this point, I must have played this game at least 20 time (each possible way a couple of times). I don't know why I keep returning to this game, only a few weeks ago I played through it again (I lost count a long time ago). It just feels right, exactly what I expect from a point & click adventure. No other game (no, not even the Monkey Island games) can keep up to it. I just wished the voice samples of the talkie version would have higher quality. Since it was released on CD anyway, i don't understand why they didn't use better samples. If you play it these days, make sure you install VirtualMidiSynth and some good orchestral sound fonts, since the Windows Midi quality is awful.

Most replayable point and click

A pity that this game never got the remaster treatment other LucasArts games got. This might be the most complex Point and Click ever made. Not only the story and gameplay are excellent. I think most Point and Click games suffers from being too lineal, so if you already finished the game once, it was probably the end, there was not point on replaying except if there were multiple endings. But this game, put multiple paths based on your choices that alters dramatically the story, also it randomized some puzzles so if you replayed the game, some objects you were looking for were hidden in another room, or different objects being required to solve a certain puzzle. I don't think I've seen before those kind of elements in a different game from the same genre. The game also features multiple endings, however this game also features deaths, which some people may dislike in these kind of games. I think this game is totally underrated if you compare to other games by LucasArts, definitely worth playing.

Great game, sometimes manages to be more

Great adv game. The puzzles are well thought out, albeit not always realistic, the story is fun, the voice acting somehow sounds like Indiana Jones even though it doesn't sound anything like Harrison Ford... The visuals are wonderful for the era and make pixel art, even today, still look like a work of art... You really want to go along with it, even today, though pixel art is "dated". However, at times it still feels rather cartoony, in terms of story...some of the puzzles would not be in a movie script. This doesn't make it a bad game, but sometimes the game works on another level, somehow it feels like a direct sequel to the Indiana Jones triology or something even greater in it's own right. I can't straight up claim the game works as a sequel to Last Crusade, it's still very "adventure gamey" in sections, but it does have enough content that somehow manages to give it that feeling in memory, that most people look at it as if it were a first Indiana Jones 4 The voice acting is fantastic and unlike many other pixel art games, the characters somehow have incredible chemistry that comes across in the language of pixels. Sophia somehow feels like a long pre-exsting, canonized Indiana Jones character, and yet we've just met her. The story has this pre-existing history of the character that somehow feels compltely convincing and as if it were an actual part of the universe. Atlantis is a far cry from the holy grail or lost Ark and yet somehow the game manages to make the subject feel "Jonesy" or perhaps "Even More than Jonesy"... Somehow the game recreates the character of Indiana Jones, gives him it's own dialogues and character interactions, allows you to play as him, pixel art, a whole new story, a voice actor that doesn't even sound like HF, periodic goofy humor and puzzles, yet somehow it really manages to feel like Indiana Jones. This is impressive and you won't soon forget how engrossing the experience is as a fan of the films Difficulty just right

Best. Game. Ever.

I've come back to this game after 20 years and it is still simply brilliant. The graphics somehow seem even better than I remember (it is made with love, and you can feel it), the music and dialog are second-to-none. The story is well paced and the puzzles (can be) difficult, but they're fair (don't read a walkthrough, you'll hate yourself). There is an art to storytelling and adventure that many newer games miss the mark on, but this hits it dead center - if you were playing games in the 80s/90's pick this one up, it won't dissapoint.

Absolutely one of the best

This is easily the best indiana jones game to date and even a strong contender for one of the best lucasarts adventures too. Features vibrant, beautifully pixeled VGA graphics and it comes even with a talkie option. Not voiced by mr Ford though, as far as I am aware. One of the unique points about this game is that it offers you three paths to solve the game. Each one altering some scenes and adding distinct new ways until the endgame. Compared to other adventure games, the puzzles can feel a bit dry, as the game is not as whacky or humourous as many of its counterparts. They are neatly varied though, offering some okayish mini games to mix things up. None of them are really awful, so that's a win in my book. It is a very well crafted and re-playable game and easily one of the best adventure games from back in the day. It is no doubt worlds ahead of its predecessor. Apart from the aforementioned paths, this game is also unique in its cineastic way of presentation and its plot, well worthy of a true indiana jones film. You'll feel like you're really playing through a proper film they never made. And if you dread the many fist fights from the last crusade game, you can either pick another path or use the easy punch to pull you through (except against Arnold). I'm on my third playthough now and I would wholeheartedly recommend this game to any adventure game fan. I'd guess that some indy fans might prefer more action-oriented games like the later tomb-raider-likes. This game does offer an action-oriented path, but let's be frank: adventure games excel more in terms of their dialogues and puzzles.
