Gameplay Goes Up, Charm Goes Down
The original Hunie Pop is one of gaming's great outliers. Most 'naughty' games are empty husks, offering what could barely even be considered gameplay while hoping to lure in costumers who somehow don't know that you can just Google 'naked ladies' any time you like. But Hunie Pop rose above the sweaty heap by delivering a high-quality match-3 game with color, charm and personality. Unsurprisingly, said success has led to a sequel, which employs the classic gambit of doubling up on the original's premise. Now, your self-insert avatar dates two ladies at once, in the name of a plot that is both completely arbitrary and that will get this review censored if I delve too deeply. The core gameplay is largely identical to the original game, but having to switch between two women adds a solid extra layer of strategy. Sadly, the social aspects of the game don't get the same upgrade. Talking to the women is such a huge stamina drain that you won't be doing much of it, leaving them as little more than stock stereotypes. (I wasn't expecting Disco Elysium levels of nuance here, but still.) Winning the puzzle will always make the two women become compatible, even if their short interaction beforehand suggested nothing of the sort. A much more robust social system would'be done wonders here to break up the endless 3-matching and give the women some texture. The fact that the game is also absurdly insensitive in places probably goes without saying. Graphically, the game is fine. Bright, simple and cheerful. The music is better, being catchy but not overbearing. Actually, the epic music for the final bosses is legitimately great; you could sneak it into a serious JRPG and nobody would notice. if you're just here for your match-3 addiction, this would be a fine buy on a sale. If the dating aspects of the game mean anything to you, you'll likely be let down - Persona, this ain't. If you just want cartoon nudity, Google is currently free to use.

Plays More On Its Strengths Than First
Compared to the first game, this game is less a dating sim and more of a solid match-3 puzzle game with sexy pictures as reward for doing well. The addition of the two-girls mechanic (you get to switch back and forth between them), baggage, fatigue and a swappable collection of gifts assigned to specific girls gives more depth to the puzzle part of the game, making it less random and making you think more, though you can still get unlucky and lose due to bad luck. The music and visuals remain pleasing, although to my recollection, the music of the first game was just a little better, but the music in this one is still great. They really scaled up the silliness in that one and the premise of the game is so crazy that it made me laugh (both at the beginning of the game and towards the end), something that its predecessor failed to do. They also scaled down the need for conversation to get what you want and made the girls more outrageous and sillier than in the first game. I consider that a plus as ultimately, the narrative of the game is about a player trying to get laid as much as possible and as a somewhat serious dating sim, it would be depressing I think. In my opinion, the better option is to scale the absurdity of the premise which the first game did to an extent (but at times got a little too serious about manipulating girls who were not necessarily looking for flings for my comfort), but the second game embraced it more fully, making it less of a manipulation simulator (which made me uneasy at times) and more of a silly laid back ride with good visuals, good music, good puzzles and sexy pictures. I will warn militant progressive types that the game is outrageous and the both the girls and the protagonist will say some things that may shock you. Also, for those looking for an easy release, that might not be your game. There are barriers to get to the sexy material and it is pictures. For me, it was a good solid 4 stars experience.
