HuniePop is a unique sim experience for PC, Mac and Linux. It's a gameplay first approach that's part dating sim, part puzzle game, with light RPG elements, a visual novel style of presentation, an abrasive western writing style and plenty of "plot".
8 gorgeous girls each with their own personalities, preferences and style. (Rumor has it there are several secret characters to unlock as well!)
Hundreds of collectables including gifts, outfits and photos that you can purchase, unlock or earn as special rewards.
An addicting match-3 style puzzle dating system with it's own unique twists including upgradeable traits/stats, the ability to move any number of positions and special date gifts that have a variety of interesting effects on the puzzle.
Very fun, very cute, and worth the money. Nothing complicated. It's just match 3, but what makes teh game is it's anime storyline. Well acted and written. There far worse ways to spend ten bucks.
The foundation is the best bejewelled matching game I've played. I found it most fun when I bumped the difficulty to max and then used a cheat engine to buy the bottom four talent trees. This maximized the complexity while removing some RNG. The adult content is fine, could use a remaster as it maxes out at 720p... but the voice acting is mostly great and the build up of said content is perfect. I ended up making my own adjustments to the costumes to make the end game RNG more fun so either do that or just stop once youve gone on four dates with everyone because there's no reward or even dialogue reference for completing all the tabs and everything. OH! And 'HomiePop' is actually very fleshed out, totally playable if you want male characters!
More than anything I give props to the game/devs for even making a game like this one in our days of "take no risks, stick with the popular, sequels & re-boots".
The anime style of the game's graphcs, the surprisingly good voice acting and the overall addictive match-3 gameplay make this title a real blast to play.
The mature nature of the plot in which the player gets to be guided from being a lonely "Mr average" to a full blown "pickup artist" should be taken with the humor that it was meant to represent:
We all like boobs, we all like girls, we all like video games - this game it the fusion of those aspects!
If one doesn't take it "too seriously", it's just fun to play and will eat away your time.
Dating sims... I've always been curious about this genre of games and HuniePop was my first venture.
I liked how the game starts. You meet a fairy, who makes her quest that you will loose your virginity... 12 times to be exact. You get little tutorial how this game's match three puzzle system and how talking with the ladies work. After that, your adventure begins.
You go to your first place and you'll see two of the ladies talking to each other, giving some hints about their relationship. You approach the "main lady" of the place and start conversation with her. Good so far, until you get to the "meat" of the game. Asking questions about the lady (favorite season, cup size etc.) and they ask questions about you, which you have to answer in a way she likes. After that you get to the dating phase, if you want, and play the match three puzzle. If you succeed many enough times, you'll get some bedroom action.
At first this seemed nice, but when I was reaching "the end of the game" , this became tedious. Puzzle sections are damn well done, but the conversation part felt lacking. I never felt like I was "real" conversation with the ladies. There was potential. Voice acting was good, ladies seemed intresting and I wanted to know them better. Instead, my main goal was to have sex with them. Concept of love wasn't really understood apparently...
I really liked astethics of the game. It is well done anime style, that had clean look to them and was pleasure to watch. Music seemed dull at first, but I really started like them. I especially like "Nutmeg Cafe", "Farmer's Market" and "In the Bedroom" songs. Really relaxing soundtrack to listen on it's own, so I recommend you buy the deluxe edition upgrade.
In the end, I'd say HuniePop was good game. Game looks and sounds great, puzzle part is damn well done, but the "dating sim" part was bit disapointing. If sequel happens someday, I hope that is this part improved.
A bit dated mechanics and magna-styled graphics.
While the core gamplay is match-3 there are numerous modifications to make this a bit different.
The good: responsive, colorful and predictable mechanics (once you get what these symbols stand for), the girls get stripeed as you progress
The bad: dialog options are canned (once you learn which answer is the right one, you progress with a girl faster), the characters are cliche, dialogs are unskippable (although clicking speeds them up), the game is sloow, even on a fast PC
The ugly: there is nothing realistic here, you are expected to juggle multiple girls; integrity, honesty and sincerity are not a thing in this game
It would make a decent clicker if it werent for the unskippable story parts (dialogs).
