HROT

A simple FPS set in the socialist era behind the Iron Curtain, specifically in Czechoslovakia, where everything was either brown or grey. The game is packed with hidden jokes and Easter eggs from that time—little details that can truly be appreciated only by those who remember. I do remember, and I had a great time playing. The only downside for me was the lack of more weapons. I also saw the potential for a deeper background story and more varied missions. But at the end of the day, it’s an action-packed shooter in the style of Duke Nukem or Quake, and in that regard, it does the job perfectly.

Where on this planet one could have seen masked horses murdering people, now or in 1986, I can't say. Closest I ever came to that was getting stepped on by a horse--about the same time, come to think of it. Then there's HROT. I come out of a bunker and think "ok, lots of people have shown up and I have to fight them HOLY CRAP THAT HORSE WANTS TO KILL ME!" I could have focused on other aspects of gameplay, but other people have assessed the game well. So far in my reading, however, nobody appears to have remarked on the presence of murder horses. I felt this needed some attention.

Yea this game is very similar to the original Quake but with a bit more added humor. Very fun and great level design, great music and overall atmosphere. The only things I think could use improvement are the lack of movement variety and sometimes there are a bit too many locked in arena sections after another. Other than that it was a breath of fresh air and a good laugh here and there. Awesome game!

It's a fun shooter with a pronounced eastern european twist. Definitely recommend.
