Description
Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number is the brutal conclusion to the Hotline Miami saga, set against a backdrop of escalating violence and retribution over spilled blood in the original game. Follow the paths of several distinct factions – each with their own questionable methods and uncertain motivations – as unforeseen consequences intersect and reality once again slips back into a brilliant haze of neon and bloodshed.

Blistering combat against punishing opposition will require intense focus as new variables, weapons, and methods of execution are introduced throughout the struggle. Let the striking colors of an unmistakable visual style wash over as you meticulously cut down those that would stand between you and the ultimate meaning behind the massacre. This is the finale, this is the unquestionable end.

Sort of an improvement from the first..?

In some ways, Hotline Miami 2 is better than the first in some ways, but worse in other ways. The first game featured fun, fast paced gameplay with a unique aesthetic that you don't really see too often, and was (sort of) done well. However, I felt quite uneasy playing it due to the 'Drug trip' aesthetic being too overbearing. It felt like the game was giving me a slight headache/nauseous feeling, coupled along with the music (everyone said that was a strong point of the first, I disagree slightly) which had some good tracks but mostly sounded too disorientating. It also had that damn ending stealth sequence which let the game down for me. Conversely, Hotline Miami 2 improves on the aesthetic for me. It feels like the "Drug trip" aesthetics are still there but toned down so that the game is much more playable, only being deliberately intensified when they need to be. The music for me in the second one seems to be more down-to-earth than the first game which sounded too much like one long drug trip. In general, it made me not experience the same feeling of uneasiness and it feels like the game is actually more playable as a result. Oh, and there's no horrible stealth section. Aesthetics are improved. What killed the game for me was the story, which feels much more forced on you. I managed to follow certain parts of it but for the most part it's constantly skipping between the timeline which didn't really make sense and I lost track of what was actually happening while playing. There's quite a few characters but none of them were really memorable or had very interesting personalities. There's not really a massive improvement over the first game. The AI occasionally bugs out (which I don't remember happening in the first one) and gets stuck on objects. There's not really any huge additions or new weapons. Dodge mechanics felt pretty useless. Aiming without Shift seemed sluggish. Not bad, not a massive improvement either.

A really decent sequel

Sincerely, having played both games, the first one is better, it had a better way to tell the story, and more choices in the gameplay style, but this game knows how to keep the spirit of the original, keeping the bloodshed, and the interesting narrative, while reducing the elections available in terms of gameplay. However, that's not even a negative thing, it's done for a reason, a very obvious one, and i find it well implemented. I recommend to play the first one, finish this one and ther come back to the original, since there are a lot of clever references and ties between the two.

Mstrpc not shaming HM1 despite criticism

Masterpiece game. The first was amazing. This one also is. I've read bad reviews. About complex stories with no soul, no charismatic characters, the rape scene, enemies that shot from too far, the psycho journalist. I understand them. Finaly I don't agree. Story is pessimistic as hell, the end is beautifull. The rape scene? 3 seconds at the beginning in a B movie... I would rather complain they are no strippers in the strip club. Seriously there is no sex in this game. It has been forbidden because of the last chapter, the greatest drug experience in a video game and in a story line, a must watch and play. Characters are great and share charisma alltogether. Story is about dying traumatic peoples that reach the end of their insanity. Very poetic and nihilistic storyline, as good as the first HM. The roster mask is the shadow of their mental and moral issue coping with violence nowhere. Gameplay. The same as 1st HM. With distance more often. Totaly manageable if you don't play headless. Problem remains controling your aiming arrow with the mouse for fast pace action. But it's manageable. Greater map deals with long shoot snipers sometime, you have to be careful sometime and use the shift key for far sight. Sometime foes run in mass on you. Just take a step backward like with the Rat who can use darkness and whose level can be frustrating at first. The journalist can be a good guy, not kill and just harm. He kills if you want. My only disapointment is war vet's story and the boat level. Challenging but lack of atmos. Ok means that rest of game is good challenge, gameplay and atmos. You also have in the basic edition a map editor. Pretty good. Game's worth the price. I just had wished strippers in the stripclub. Last chapter is hell beautifull mindblowing and tragic.

Better than the first one

I enjoyed this more than the first one. It is bigger, more brutal and more varied. Play the first first, and then this, judge by yourself.

I like hurting people

People say that Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number is worse than first game. I didin't play the original so I can't tell if this is true. What I do now is that fast-paced combat and FENOMENAL soundtrack make this game a lot of fun.
