This is a good game, a lot of fun to play and good story, but it could have been a GREAT Game with just a little bit more effort. Worth getting at a discount price.
PROS:
Excellent female character and storyline
Great choice of weapons and tactics - you MUST learn the advantages for each weapon type
Wide variety of monster machines to fight
Really good Snipper game, resource harvesting and NPCs
CONS:
IF YOU DON'T HAVE 7 FINGERS ON YOUR LEFT HAND - GET A CONTROLLER
There are many times need to change weapons fast, roll out of the way, climb ropes and swing from ledges. Without a controller, well, you will die a lot. I refuse to buy one so err - yeah
CRAZY RE-SPAWNS
It's okay to re-spawn enemies but, you can use half your arrows killing of a group of machines, then go the the way point to SAVE - then - you know all those all the machines you just killed.? Well they're all back. WT .?
WOULD IT HAVE KILLED THEM TO PUT IN A MINI-MAP
Not all games have mini-maps showing enemy positions relative to the character - but so many times I turned around to be 3 inches away from the jaws of death. Yes there is an indicator - of sorts - but does not show relative positions very well. Also helps when travelling
WEAPON UPGRADE SLOTS DON'T TAKE ALL UPGRADES
You have different bows and rope weapons that have upgrade slots. All the upgrade chips look the same, but they only fit certain weapons and you don't know that till you try to assemble. Just lazy.
I'M STANDING RIGHT HERE..!
You can be right next to a box or a person or a thing - even standing on top of it - but unless you are in EXACTLY the right spot - you cannot interact with it.
JET PROPELLED ENEMIES
This is basically an arrow snipper game - you shoot and run. But some enemies seem to have jet packs in their buttocks cause one minute they are out of arrow range, then they land on top of you.
WHERE ARE YOU.?
Would it kill them to put markers on the NPC we need to speak with? Would that be so hard.?
+ Beautiful graphics
+ Interesting and creative world building
- Dull and bland characters, including the protagonist
- Far too easy, repetitive combat system
- Plot twist you can see coming a mile off
- Side quests that stall you, but add nothing to the experience or the story
- Messy inventory management
- Meaningless skill system because you can easily unlock everything
The hype for Horizon Zero Dawn was -- and to some extent still is -- real. The game has been praised on all fronts by both professional reviewers and by the crowd. For this reason, I came to the game expecting an incredible experience -- just to find myself disappointed. While the graphics are beautiful and the world building is creative, the overall experience was bland and dull. What do I mean by this? Fist of all, the Playable Character, Aloy, is as bland and dull as it gets. She does not have much of a personality to begin with, and at the same time, there is no development in her, regardless of your in-game actions. The animation of facial expressions does not help, either. In fact, all characters in the game and their respective dialogues are massively hindered by the unbefitting facial expressions. Apart from a little chit-chat, no one actually has anything interesting to say. I usually like reading/listening to dialogues, yet in this game, I found myself skipping through it after a while because there was nothing interesting there, especially pertaining to side quests.
But wait, there is combat in this game, right? Yes, there is, and unfortunately, it gets repetitive from the get-go, but not in a good way. Of course, all combat systems require some kind of reptitiveness, but in this game, it feels repetitive in a boring sense from the start. It is not difficult at all, on the contrary, even on the higher difficulties, it is actually quite easy -- too easy.
Last but not least, the inventory management is a mess, and the skills are meaningless.
I cannot recommend this.
This game has quite a lot positive about it with beautiful graphics, nice storyline, plenty of action, the ability to tone it down if you want with several different difficulty levels, and it has quite a few cut scenes if you like that in a game.
I only find one big negative about it and that is the inability to save unless you are at a certain point in the game. Real life happens and you can't always play until you get to that save point so you lose progress, even if you fast travel to one of those points to save and move on. I dislike that way of saving a game.
HZD is a tactical open world 3rd person shooter with some basic stealth elements. Rather than just rushing in with guns blazing, the player must choose proper tactics (stealth, hack machines to fight each other, etc.), weapons, and ammo to overcome encounters against powerful machines. The open world is huge, beautiful, and has a lot of fun side activities to do.
The game is very fun. Unfortunately, there are some incredibly aggravating issues that constantly drag the game down and make it difficult to just enjoy the game.
- Severely limited inventory forces the player to manage inventory on a regular basis. Every 2~3 quests, I have to visit a merchant and fiddle with inventory. It gets incredibly aggravating and really kills the flow of the game.
- No AOE or auto loot. Looting a dozen things one at a time gets old.
- Poor visibility can make for another aggravating experience. In dark areas, it can be impossible to see the terrain and ledges to jump to. Landing headshots on human enemies can be difficult since you can't see them. It can also be hard to see the direction human enemies are facing, making stealth kills difficult. Not only that, when it's bright, it's hard to see focus highlights.
- Clunky weapon/ammo/potion switching. Quick changing mid combat often leads to player rushing and accidentally selecting the wrong weapon/ammo since the game doesn't pause. Switching between potions is even worse as the game doesn't even slow down, nor can the player move while switching potions.
- While crafting ammo, the player has to be mindful and stop the game from wasting resources to craft 1 ammo.
- Aiming and dodging don't work together well. With the camera zoomed in while aiming, you will not know if you'll fall off a cliff or walk into a wall and not have room to dodge. There's also no way to know of attacks coming from the sides.
- Dialogue, story, and characters (including Aloy) are boring and uninteresting.
