Great metroidvania.

great metroidvania with a ton of content for it's price, i got around 50 hours of enjoyment and i haven't done everything, but quantinty doesn't mean quality, don't get me wrong the areas in the game are very visually different, contain new enemies for each one and have some slightly different mechanics for stuff like plataforming as well as having several secrets to find however most of them are kind of the same, the game has a very blocky design, literally, i don't think there's a single sloped surfice in the game and not every mechanic is unique like for example the steaming water in some areas, it pretty much functions like the spikes except you get a power up later that allows you to swim on it and enemies are reskinned differently for several areas, usually there's a enemy that crawls on the walls, one that charges, one that flies etc, every area has a slight variation on this, they are not completely identical but the concept is the same. at this point you might be wondering why i even rated this game 4 stars, well while i don't think the exploration was the game's strong suit it has better things, like the bosses, most of the bosses in the game are at least enjoyable and the ones that aren't are easy to beat at least as well as combat with regular enemies, while the enemies themselves are repetitive it still is enjoyable to beat them down, not to mention the game's charm system wich allows you to spec your knight in a few different ways like movement, spells, attack or a combination of the 3, it add replay value to the game and is fun to tinker with since the charms in the game have several interactions between them. the game also has a fantastic OST, it helps sets the mood and separate areas as well as sounding very good on their own. as a whole hollow knight is great and well worth the purchuse, if you are a fan of metroidvanias then this should be on your list.

Goth bug beats God

A huge metroidvania with dark atmosphere and great challenges, the combat is smple, but clever, with charms that can be equipped to vastly change the way you approach the different fights. You can play it straightforward and be done with it in a few hours, but if you are a fan of the genre you know is not that simple, you have to explore every nook and cranny to get extra charms, abilities and spells that will grant you access to more secret areas and most importantly, the secret bosses. This game has a baseline somewhat challenging, but can turn up the challenge to "insane" if that is your thing, the path of pain, the arena of fools, godhome, and an optional permadeath game mode, is all there to challenge you and the limits of what is humanly possible, it will make you want to beat it just out of spite, no matter what it takes (including buying a new controller). The art style is equally clean and simple, but the sound design is amazing and the music is superb, so many good tracks playing in the background keeping you company in your adventure. If the game faulters in some way is in the narrative, it approaches the story the "dark souls" style, telling you little and just giving you snips of backstory every once in a while, and no matter how much I love souls or metroidvania games I think that's shoddy design and lazy writing. Overall this is an amazing metroidvania that will challenge you as much as you want to be challenged and then some, is definetively up there with Symphony of the Night, Ritual Of the Night or Zero Mission, even tho I had to google what the story was all about after "beating" it. (beating in quotes because I still have some challenges to beat in Godhome)
