Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption is an epic fantasy adventure and role-playing game by Lori Ann Cole and Corey Cole, creators of Quest for Glory, Shannara, Castle of Dr. Brain, and Mixed-Up Fairy Tales. Although Hero-U is not a direct sequel to the Quest for Glory games, it features the same mix of adventure, role-playing, humor, and immersive storytelling that we introduced in that series.
In Rogue to Redemption, Shawn O'Conner strives to become Rogue of the Year while exploring a mysterious castle, making friends and enemies, fighting deadly foes, and uncovering the secrets of his own hidden past. Meanwhile players will enjoy the rich and humorous dialogue and descriptions as they guide Shawn through his adventures.
During the day, Shawn attends classes at the University, practices his skills, and tries to make friends with other students. At night, it's time to pull out weapons, armor, and traps to explore the abandoned wine cellars, stunning sea caves, creepy catacombs, and deadly dungeon beneath Hero-U. Most combat is optional for those who prefer a pure adventure game, but there are ample rewards for those who choose to valorously fight the creatures that threaten the school and all of Sardonia.

Really, it is. I grew up on Sierra and QfG was my favorite series. I love how this game holds its own but still gives you that feeling of nostalgia.. I've played through several times, just to try out different avenues as well as go for more trophies. My 9, 12 and 19 year old boys have played and enjoyed it, as well. Puzzles are fun, diaglogue cracked me up, artwork is beautiful and the music is great! I really cannot say enough about this game. Buy it and enjoy!!!
Well I don't play computer games at all anymore, but the Quest for Glory series was my favourite thing as a kid.
I really appreciated the complexity and depth in the game, the humour, non-stereotype narrative (ie we some dark evil overlord killing innocents and taking over the land) though there was definitely archetypes but they held some surprises. I appreciated the positive focus on family and friendship, the fact that it's not all just hack and slash, the skill building through practice in the same places rather than endless side-quests, the humorous references to the original QFG series, the characters as having been generally pretty kind to each other - I mean there's just a good vibe, the surprises, the unique way of battling and navigating with a thief character (traps, sneaking around, running away and throwing knives instead of engaging in direct combat), the fact that reputation and relationships are important and affect the storyline outcomes and again, the humour and lightness.
I missed some of the more fantasy-wonder elements that the original series had, which had felt more magic somehow. I think that's probably just funding. I really hope the Cole-team get some more funding to complete sequels but also to expand and extend the game, which is a good game as it is, a refreshing game as it is and more development could turn this series into a revolutionary game.
Immersive, entertaining, genuinely funny, and emotionally gripping--Hero-U takes what was great about the old Quest for Glory series and blends it with all the excitement and engagement I felt in the first few Harry Potter books/movies.
I'm really grateful the Coles have come back to create a new game since the Quest for Glory days. Filled with great art, the game is designed very beautifully. I really enjoy playing and exploring the places. There is so much mystery that makes you want to play more of the game. Would definitely recommend it, especially if you are a Quest for Glory fan.
Long ago, I joined a website called The School for Heroes. I took an entrance exam much like Shawn does in this game. I was put in the Packaging class with none other than Lady Moira Glenshannon as my instructor. It is a wonderful feeling to see her in this game.
Hero-U is a great game. I like the choice of picking Shawn's personality as you respond to different events. The music is great, and the combat system, while kind of unresponsive at times, is fun. My first run through I played the charming, wizardly rogue.
Can't wait for future installments, and will back then as I did this game. Big thank you to the Coles and everyone at Transolar, you have a winner with this.
