Heroes of Might and Magic® 3: Complete

After the older Heroes of Might and Magic 2, this is my next favorite turn-based fantasy strategy game. Like the previous game, this game has fantastic music and aesthetics, and incorporates a variety of magical creatures from different myths and religions of the world such as Greek Titans and Minotaurs, to Genies and other creatures from middle eastern cultures, as well as other magical and medieval creatures like wizards, druids, crusaders, etc. This game also seems to bring in creatures from the Christian religion like Angels and Devils as well. I would recommend playing Heroes of Might and Magic 2 first if you are new to the series because it's the best and will familiarize yourself with the game world before moving on to the newer game, particularly if you're playing the single player campaign (which isn't that great imo). The way I most enjoy playing this are the single player skirmish scenarios vs the AI. This is old, but it's a classic. This is the sort of game I still play with friends who used to play this with me in decades past because it's still quite fun even decades later. People will argue over which is the best in the series, but I think the general consensus in my experience is that Heroes 2 and Heroes 3 are the best (by far). If you like medieval fantasy and turn-based strategy games like Civilization 5 or something like that, don't hesitate to buy this! I strongly recommend it.

I'm astounded by how much enjoyment this game still brings me. I've sunk so many hours and will probably sink a ton more as time goes on. This review is with the expectation that you're already familiar with the game or the series as a whole. With that being said, I greatly insist on installing the HD Mod and Horn of the Abyss fan expansion. The HD Mod is a necessity in order to play on modern resolutions, while Horn of the Abyss offers tons of improvements, reasonable balance adjustments, new items, units, tons of new map objectives and a brand new faction with its own story mode. A lot of people struggle with HoMM or the genre in general, because you have to control multiple heroes. However, there is now a very well refined single hero map template, called Duel, which brings all the fun of the series and compacts it into a very replayable, 1-2hour long session, based on how loosely you follow the rules.

At the time of this review Heroes of Might and Magic III is currently the best selling game of all time on this platform. Just a look at the user review score and the number of user reviews should tell you why. A modern gamer may need to readjust their lens a little bit but you don't have to squint too hard to find what is rewarding about this game. While I slightly prefer the simplicity of HoMM 2 HoMM 3 is still one of my favorite games of all time. When I was younger I spent plenty of late nights finishing the various campaigns. HoMM 3 improved a lot on the campaigns from HoMM 2, with multiple interweaving campaigns with different game play experiences. There is a ton of game and the game has a lot of systems to play with. You level up your heroes and select their skills, which will inform your strategy and tactics, there is a city upgrade system, resource system, etc. and they all interact in interesting ways. If you have any interest in this kind of genre, if you like playing these older games, and you are looking at reviews to push you over the edge here, use this one. It's well worth the small amount of money they are asking whether it is on sale or not and there is a ton of content here.

I grew up playing this game with my dad. I would always lose. I still always lose unless I put in cheat codes. This game is worth it. Infinite playability.

The best of the whole strategy series (among all Heroes of Might and Magic games). This game is something that gives you endless hours of fun, a well-known classic (I hope - it's an assumption after mostly meeting people who know this) that doesn't get boring after fighting for 3 hours straight! The best playability that did not disappear the last 10 years - always a game I gladly came back to. Nobody managed to repeat this stunt. The gameplay sometimes seems not too balanced. But only at the beginning. Every castle has its flaws, balancing the benefits. It takes some time to find them, but oh, how much fun is it to play. And the music provides the greatest atmosphere! Truly gives this game its it. It fits the places, gives them a certain feeling. The campaigns provide a lot of fun. And they do follow a story, one pre-set by other games. This is an achievement, especially comparing to some other games. This is simply the best TBS ever made. Hours of fun. In other, shorter words: the gameplay is awesome, the music is awesome, the whole thing is AWESOME!
