Description

Hell Pie is an obscene 3D platformer that takes bad taste to the next level! The game sees you grab the horns of Nate, the ‘Demon of Bad Taste’. He is given the honorable task of gathering the disgusting ingredients for Satan’s infamous birthday pie. To do so, Nate must venture out into the overworld and do whatever it takes to ensure those ingredients are secured in time, or there’ll be hell to pay!
Luckily Nate isn’t alone on this quest, his ‘pet’ angel Nugget is there to offer support. Nugget offers his holy insight when needed, but more importantly is chained to Nate, so can be used like a grappling hook or swung around as a weapon. Nate can also equip horns he finds across the world to give him new hellish abilities.
Together Nate and Nugget will explore insane environments, meet tons of repugnant characters and witness some truly shocking sights. Hell Pie is a seriously twisted take on the classic mascot platformer, come along for the ride if you think you can stomach it!
- Become a demon: You're Nate, demon of bad taste, the 8th deadly sin. While not taken very seriously in hell, he is feared on earth (by some...a few...2-3 people at least).
- Heavenly support: Nugget the angel does not only look cute, he's also useful. Throw him like a grappling hook, use him as a weapon and let him be your guide.
- Freedom: Use the extensive moveset to overcome obstacles the way you want.
- Stuff: Collect things! Lots of things!
- Hell and above: Explore 4 big worlds and survive challenging platforming levels.
- Fashion: Buy outfits. You're the demon of bad taste and should look the part.
- Random bullet point: Did you know? Necrophiliac ducks exist.

Forget this if you don't use controller
Some kinda superisingly generic looking 3D platformer, where you direct the camera with your mouse, what is probably not the worst idea I've seen, but definitely not a common thing I've encountered. If you are fine with that, try it, though I have to also warn you, this somehow wants as much memory as a warhammer-game, aka. a lot. You'll be able to downgrade the graphic from "epic" level after half an hour strougle with the lag, but still.

What a disappointment
This game is just the generic old school Rare formula, minus all of Rare's charm, minus Rare's level design skills, and minus Rare's polish. The last one is forgivable. Rare was one of the giants, working with a corresponding budget. But when the characters and worldbuilding just seem like they took the crudest elements of Conker and pushed it into only those elements, there's not much to look forward to there. And then you have the issue of the platforming, which just feels like it exists. Nothing special. No real inspiration there. Everything seems overly simplified and a bit too clunky. Now you could chalk those complaints up to being a demo and that the full game should introduce challenge and more development to the world and its inhabitants. But a demo is supposed to inspire you to buy the game afterward. If you're not going to do the default and just stuff the first level in a limited version of the game and call it a demo, you need to bring out some variety, showcase some of the later game, do something to make players want to see what the game has in store for them. Unfortunately, this isn't that. I'd give it another half star or so if I could, but it certainly isn't worth a full 2.
