On of the most unique CCGs on the market
Solid foundations to a fun and unique card game. I hope the devs araen't afraid of pushing the design space into a more complex and deep space strategically with future expansions.

Fun, F2P, inovative, amazing art, amazing gameplay and deckbuilding. Ignore the 1 star review bashers who moan 'i want beta back, not ma gem rrr' who most likely haven't even played HC for 5 minutes.

Feels more like old Gwent again!
Game is starting to feel like old Gwent just with better visuals and graphics, im really enjoying playing it since the new patch and excited for futute improvements

Gwent is becoming great again!
Having spent hundreds of hours in Closed and Open Beta Gwent, I was apprehensive at the release of Gwent: Homecoming. When it first released, I was put off by the sheer difference between familiar gwent and this brave new world. Having left for about 2 months, I returned to Gwent Homecoming following the latest patch, which was described to be an excellent addition to the game. I have fallen in love with this game once more. If you're looking at adding gwent to your library (free to play of course), there are several things I think are notable when considering whether to play: Pros: -Filled with lore, factions, people and events from the Witcher universe -Tactical gameplay that feels like a battle of brains between you and your opponent -Heaps of deck archetypes and playstyles to build and play. -Lots of progressions available (level ups, ranked play, faction reward trees, events, challenges, quests and trinkets to collect) -An incredibly generous monetization system. For those who want to, playing free to play requires a relatively small time commitment, and there are no cosmetics that cannot be earned in-game -Continued dev support which (knowing CDPR) will continue for a long time into the future. Cons: -Slow gameplay at the moment (Devs have stated they would like to speed up gameplay, so might not be slow forever) which has, unfortunately, kept the 5th star from my review. -Can take time to find a match but there more of you who join the game, the less time it will take (savvy?) -Difficult to learn and master (tutorials are good, but you will probably need to explore forums, youtube etc. to understand the game more wholly. Make up your own mind, but there is a community of Gwentlemen and Gwentlewomen waiting for more to join our ranks, and I don't believe you will find a more generous card game on the market (so to speak). Far better than it was a few months ago
Many of the one star reviews that you'll see here are like I was after the game officially launched: angry, confused, and feeling a little empty inside because the game we loved had been completely transformed into something strange. And yes, the launch of Gwent with its "Homecoming" patch included a large number of very strange design decisions, but many of those have been rolled back. I returned to Gwent a month ago and I'm having just about as much fun with it now as I had before Homecoming, with a clever card game experience that's one part math one part chess and beautiful in-game card art. Does it have problems? Sure, that's why I'm only going it 4/5. They're still trying to figure out card balancing, I think, though the new expansion (coming in March 2019) may help address some weaknesses in most factions that aren't Monsters or SK. I'm still not a fan of the number of cards you draw between rounds or the fact that you can only have two copies of a card in a deck, which smacks a little too much like Hearthstone to my liking. Also when you start the game you only get one leader (think the Paladins, Mages, etc from Hearthstone) from each faction and have to grind to unlock the rest, which isn't a problem if you own/played Thronebreaker (a Gwent spin-off game that's actually pretty good if you're invested in Witcher lore) because it gives you a large number of "reward points" that can help you unlock 90% of Gwent's leaders. That being said, it's still a very generous system of rewards compared to competitors like Hearthstone and as I mentioned earlier it's a card game experience like no other. Plus it's free! So give it a shot and see how you feel about it yourself. I would argue that any negative review from before January 2019 should be ignored, as the game is completely different now, and if you HAVE quit due to the Homecoming changes then I strongly recommend you try Gwent again.
