Elegant platformer

GRIS is a wonderful, peaceful platforming experience. It goes in a direction I wish more platformers would explore: a mostly enemyless journey. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy all the classic platformers like Mario and Donkey Kong Country, but why does every game have to be oriented around us vs. them? Enter GRIS, where a large portion of the game involves either neutral NPCs or NPCs that you have to collaborate with to advance. I just loved the puzzles, the elegance of the gameplay, and it's surprising originality. This is not for hardcore gamers; none of the challenges are particularly difficult. It's more about the joy of exploration and discovery. There are a number of cool challenges a long the way, but I mostly came for the gorgeous water color design, the clever abstract world-building, and the excellent soundtrack. If you like puzzlers such as Art of Gravity or Zenge, or platformers like Limbo or Inside, GRIS is a necessary addition to your collection.

Interactive Media as Art

This game is the greatest argument for the artistic value of video games put forth this decade. The game is set around Gris, the female player character who suffers a life shattering event, causing her to lose all colour to her life. You play her going through each of the five stages of grief, set to absolutely stunning watercolour styled visuals and a emotionally moving score. Pros - Visually stunning, beautiful music, simplistic gameplay that is open to all ages, story Cons - Simplistic gampley, only 3-4 hours long (add an hour or two if you're a completionist). This is as close to art as video games will ever get, do yourself a favour and experience it.

Staggeringly Beautiful

Gris was an absolute pleasure to play. Unlike other similar albeit gorgious titles that have come before (e.g. Journey), Gris takes full advantage of its medium in being a video game. The puzzles and map layout are surprisingly well crafted; finding a way to direct the player without holding your hand. Though, somewhat simple in comparison to other games, the main character handles well the interactivity with the world within Gris is substantial. From the art design, to the sound design, the animation, to the soundtrack, Gris is successful in providing an experience that should not be missed. + Amazing art design + Detailed and elaborate sound design + Great atmosphere + Fluid controls + Good Puzzles + Exceptional sound track

Masterpiece

Sadly I bought it back then on Steam, would have loved to get this masterpiece on GOG. Soundtrack, Visuals, Story, Handling...10/10

Overhyped

First playthrough took me 5h and for most of the time I had no clue, what to do. I still don't know what the story was supposed to be, but the asthetics are really nice.
