A proper wargame
Once you've figured out Total war...well, you've figured out Total War. But if you want to replicate Hannibal's exploits, you'll need to put in the work! The game is deep, yes, but the mechanics themselves are simple and you'll learn very quickly what doesn't work.

Found at Last
I've been looking for this for many years. Lost the disks and could not remember the name. Remembered Gaugamela, used Google, and I was on my way. This was a great game. Thanks for keeping it out there. Jim

Yes, it's Richard Berg's GBOH, on PC
If you like tabletop wargaming, this should be right up your ally. It's the Great Battles Of History system. The interface is a little dated, but serviceable, and the graphics have aged well. The battles are deep and engaging, and the AI is competent. The GBOH system is so complex that having the game do most of the calculations actually helps, in this case. I've found that many tabletop-to-PC conversions kind of ruin the feel of the game because doing the heavy thinking yourself is part of the fun (see: Twilight Struggle). In this case, it translates really well.

Excellent!!!
This was a great, fun game for Windows 9x systems. Nothing fancy, just old-fashioned, turn-based, board-game simulation of ancient battles. This almost makes me forgive Gog for not converting Panzer General III: Scorched Earth to Win 7 format (please tell me that might happen soon!!) Still, thanks for Great Battles!!!!
