Flatout 2 is not a demanding game, I found it significally easier than first one and it's absolutely ok Bugbear did it this way! You can really relax playing this title and focus on pure wreck and destruction of everything around. No need to fear flying through the window by each scratch like before, you won't get stuck that easily too, maps are designed to encourage you to keep top speed and even nitro it up in front of obstacles, especially opponents. :) Just like in first game there are many interesting stunts but highjump is totaly screwed in my opinion. Last but not least - music, ah, that's just symbol of this series, track list is even better than used previously, fits perfectly to dynamic gameplay. Worth way more than silly 2$ they want for it on promo. You won't regret it!
While the first game was hard FlatOut 2 is beyond easy & hard. It is arbitrary, luck decides if you win or not and you as the player have little influence on that.
There are two main issues
The engine/the car behavior
You cannot predict how your car will react during a jump or hitting an obstacle. Sometimes it runs smoothly, sometimes you will lose your position or advantage. Therefore there is little space in getting better or master the game, because you don't get proper feedback which action benefits you and which one will be punished.
You will find at the bottom a video I've done about two stunts. The only thing I do is pressing throttle without pausing it, so there is no room for variation. I do this in both stunts. Two exact same actions from the player result in different outcomings.
The AI/your opponents
Some of them are trolls, not interested in winning the race just ramming other cars and putting themselves at the tail end while giving you a hard time.
The other extreme are the flawless ones, usually using one of the higher level cars which you have to unlock first. Catching up with them happens rarely. They usually drive clean and boost forwards if you are getting close. Starting at the last position puts you in huge disadvantage against those.
The other thing is that the AI adapts to you. Are you driving faster or have you upgraded your car? They get better as well, so the difficulty seems to stay stable. At least to a certain point. Buying a new car with much better values makes the races easier, but not as much as I expected.
Some small annoyances
-The starting position varies, but most times I got the last place or something near that.
-Later in the game you may have to repeat races a couple times to collect the amount of money to buy a car you've just unlocked. Winning all level 1 races doesn't guarantee you having enough money for a Level 2 car.
-Strangely a Level 1 car isn't necessary good enough to compete in Level 1 races. I once had to grind for a better one and repeated the races.
-NPCs get fixed cars from the start of a class and some of them get ones from a higher tier. It would be fairer if everyone would use a car from the same level.
All in all: Driving good doesn't get rewarded, you need a certain amount of luck. Both, losses and victories, felt cheap and latter one never satisfied me. I was just relieved to be over the current race.
Now the most important point:
Does this all make the game unenjoyable? It depends.
Are you looking for a serious racing game? Is anything but 1st place not an option to you? Then skip this one. It started pretty easy and was fun, but the further I got into the game the more the races turned into bitter and teeth-gnashing hours of retries which felt more like playing roulette and waiting until the ball hits your number.
If you don't care about the mentioned issues, because just beating the game is enough for you or you just want to have a bit random wanky car physics fun, you might wanna try it. At least it won't hurt as long as you don't take it too seriously and bite your teeth into it.

PS:
Ignore the stars. I'm not a fan of scores, because they don't give useful information to others.
Since you have to rate the game to submit a review the stars represent my "enjoyment".
RECOMMENDED, though prepare for the plethora of repeated tracks, racing positions as the sole progress qualifier and dodgy track design with e.g. objects blocking the vision of the road and collision hazards.
Generally it is an improved over the prequel, where one bad collision could break your car to the point of losing you the race and generally you were heavily punished for risky i.e. fun driving. Here, the cars are much more durable and it is much easier to beneficially collide with other cars. Content-wise, it has the same problems such as tracks that feel the same and the cryptic bonus modes where you mostly waste time earning nothing while trying to figure out what and how little exactly the devs were thinking when they implemented those segments. Unless you time your actions in a very specific way or play keep-away in derbies while making specific types of collisions, you are not going to gain anything for your efforts.
Graphics: pretty solid and generally runs without choking.
Sound: the soft rock is slightly better than in the prequel, though still something you probably want to mute. The car sounds, likewise. Put some music or sth on the background if you want to listen to sth.
Gameplay: driving is okay, though it has the same annoying wobbliness (the side-to-side thing) and crash-happy jumping physics as most Codemasters driving games. In an arcade-y one where you are absolutely forced to drive very fast i.e. constantly over 100 km per hour, it is not fun to constantly wrestle with the car, trying to keep it close to the road, with bush-hidden rocks and make-shift ramps to mess you up. Messing up is really annoying, as generally two collisions in a row is enough to drop you from the first place to the last. Even with all handling upgrades, the problem still persists. You cannot really take in possible road hazards because a slight slack in handling focus is enough to crash you to the side of the road.
I bought this game on sale and it vaery cheap. I didnt expect anything from this game because it's old, I dont like derby and on the first glance there is a lot of wreck cars in this game. But.... after few hours I have to admit that this game is awesome. I love soundtrack of this game and sometimes I'm listening it on yt during my common day. Racing in this game is also great. Ok, maybe I miss about button for handbrake or simply for brake but still steering cars in this game feels so good and every crash is spectacular. there is also a lot of different "in game" activities and they are also quite interesting. I can recommend this game for someone who love racing video games. I had a lot of fun playing Flatout 2 on my pc.
The racing itself is fun, and the special events provide good variety to the experience. However, the physics can be extremely wonky at times, meaning your car will occasionally do a backflip after hitting a cardboard box. It also means that instead of using ramps to jump in order to fill up your nitro meter, you will avoid them because you lose all control when your car hits the ground. The handling is hit or miss as well, with some cars feeling solid and others making you feel like you're driving on ice. Be prepared for these annoyances going in.
Overall, if you're a fan of old school arcade racing games, Flatout 2 is definitley worth a buy, especially on sale.
