One of the 2 forefathers of TorchLight

The maker of this series (Travis Baldree) and the makers of the Diablo series (Schaefers) came together to make the TorchLight series, and the similarities are obvious: They took the fishing, pet, infinite levels, magic system of this series and added the combat, loot, merchant and level randomization of the Diablo series to make the TorchLight series. The Fate games are excellent and refreshing. Light-hearted, fun, with saturated colours and interesting enemies and mechanics, the series is the beginner's game of introduction to hack n slash RPG genre. It is even suitable for children, as the violence is kept to a minimum. For their price and size (only half a GB) you will get THOUSANDS of hours of gameplay. P.s. as previously mentioned, in order to experience the whole series you need 2 games, traitor soul and cursed king, as traitor soul contains the original date and undiscovered realms, while cursed king is standalone.

You should own this one

If you are browsing this game you probably know of Diablo & Torchlight. If you liked those, don't think twice and buy Fate ASAP. It delivers everything you'd expect from the ARPG genre in such a beautiful way you'll soon fall in love with it. Comfortable to play, addictive. interesting, many different builds to try out and tons of replayability with a superb soundtrack on top of it, both in town & dungeon ambience. They just don't make games like this anymore. Go for it!

Great addition to the GOG catalogue.

Great action, fantasy and role-playing video game. It is a true classic for the middle of the first decade of the new century. Fate may look a bit outdated for our days in terms of graphics. But that only testifies to the level the video game industry has reached today. For the time those graphics were the best the casual industry had to offer. And, at the time, it was very popular with gamers discovering a new world on the PC. The controls can feel a little clunky, but it doesn't get in the way of enjoying the experience. The progression system was novel for the time and laid the groundwork for another video game that is quite popular today. All in all, this is a great addition to GOG's catalogue of titles that marked a before and after in the industry and within the RPG's genre. Congratulations!

Glad it's there

I remember playing the demos of these long ago, and I enjoyed it back then, but I'd be lying if I said the games aged well, whether it's the art style I already wasn't completely sold on back then (I still love the 2D art though), the controls that now feel a bit stiff, the minimap indicators that fail to indicate where the specific merchants and npcs in town are... but then there is a base to make a great game underneath it all: you have a pet that can carry and go sell items for you, and that will assist in combat although he cannot die, there are fate shrines scatted in the level with an interesting risk/reward system, you can progress pretty much infinitely with about 2 million layers of dungeon, you can fish and feed your pet to transform him, you can import your characters across games, and it also has a secondary leveling system, your "fame", for more variety in progression. It might sound familiar to you because this is the series that gave us torchlight four years later, and it's all there, albeit still carrying some of the diablo 2 mechanics like a stamina bar for running or the tomes. Of course that's a lot of comparisons for a review that should let the game stand on it's own merits, but in that particular case it would be a mistake to not acknowledge it's place in Hack n'slash history as a series that proved that you didn't need to be completely like diablo to work. Definitely great news for fans of the game, classic hack n'slash enthusiasts, and game preservationists.

it's simple, more enjoyable rpg game. best value for thousands of hours... non-stop. 10/10!
