Le marin indépendant Jack Carver maudit le jour où il a posé le pied sur cette île. Une semaine auparavant, une arrogante reporter nommée Valerie lui avait proposé une somme d’argent pour la conduire jusqu’à ce paradis immaculé. Peu après avoir accosté, le bateau de Jack fut toutefois accueilli par des tirs d’artillerie en provenance d’un mystérieux groupe armé grouillant sur l’île.
Son bateau détruit, son argent évaporé et la séduisante Valerie brusquement portée disparue, Jack se trouve maintenant confronté à une armée de mercenaires dans la nature de l’île, avec pour seules ressources son pistolet et ses méninges pour survivre. Mais plus il s’enfonce dans la luxuriante canopée de la jungle, plus les choses deviennent étranges.
Jack fait la rencontre d’un membre du groupe armé qui lui révèle de terrifiants détails sur les véritables intentions des mercenaires. Il soumet à Jack un choix déconcertant : se battre contre les féroces mercenaires ou condamner la race humaine au bon vouloir d’un maniaque.

Went into the game not expect much tbh due to what I heard online but honestly it exceded my expectations. The game, despite being old, it's still fun. I'm having a lot of fun with it.
Beware though, the game is old and you can see that in the controls, movement and even aim and recoiling. So it takes a bit to get used to it but if you are interested in playing a fun fps, I'd say give it a shot.
The good old 2000s shoter experience with it's slight jankieness and a lot of charm.
The developers are from Germany. The English voice acting is what it is. After the first few levels you won't think to much about it... at least I didn't.
It is most of the time more a stealth shooter because you die very fast if you get spotted.
Don't expect modern conveniences. Listen to what others tell you in game to figure stuff out. Not a lot of hand holding here.
Sometimes very strange enemy placements but that is fine with me. Let that guy from the other side of the map have a rocket launcher on a tower and blow me up.
Sometimes you can manage to attract enemies to fight each other. You can acctually hide in the bushes here.
The levels are large and varied. Remembering where you saw some ammo or health earlier will pay off.
I got 5.1 Surround working with Alchemy on Win10. I think I found that through Deus Ex sound restoration.
You can only change the difficulty level mid game with developer mode activated. Found a guide by BattleMaster in Steam Forums.
To do that:
- Settings Button right next to the "Play" button
- Configure
- Features
- Duplicate the Default FarCry.exe (should be in \Bin32\FarCry.exe
- ad Argument "-devmode" (without the quotes)
In game open the console, this varies by your language. On German Keyboard it is "Zirkumflex" next to Number 1, above "Tabulator"
Here the guide from BattleMaster:"
Start the game and load into your save. Open the console with the ~ key (the key to the left of the 1 key, no matter your keyboard layout). You can close the console again with the same key. To see your current difficulty level, type "#Hud:AddMessage("Current difficulty: "..game_DifficultyLevel)", again without the outermost quotes. You can change your difficulty level by typing "#game_DifficultyLevel = 1", and replace 1 with the number of your desired difficulty level. If you would like to disable devmode again (recommended if you ever play online), type "#Game:Save()" to save your game, then quit the game and remove the "-devmode" from the launch options. When you now restart the game, the newest save should have the changed difficulty."
Even today, the graphics look pretty good, but personally, having played Far Cry Instincts on the original Xbox, I think that game was much better in terms of plot and overall atmosphere. Sure, this is not a game you might want to play for the plot, and even the Xbox version is quite cliché plot-wise, but still. The PC version might be much more impressive from a technical POV, but I feel that it definitely does not have a soul. The stages sometimes feel like a hodgepodge without anything to actually unite them, and the enemies you will encounter during the final levels of the game feel too out of place. Yep, it does have sandbox elements, but I feel like this aspect of the game is hugely overrated, since you still have to complete objectives in a certain order, and given that the game uses a checkpoint system, you will be using them as much as possible since you'll have no desire whatsoever to lose your progress, considering how challenging some portions of the game can be even when played on easy (some of the enemies will kill you in just one or two hits during the final phases of the game). Is it overall still a good game? Yes, sure, it is still quite fun, but frankly, I feel like it's slightly overrated. The antagonists feel pretty generic, with the main villain being the standard tough guy in a cowboy hat, whereas the one found in the Xbox version was menacing or downright scary. I know you'll be wondering why I even gave this game 4 stars, but I do believe this game is definitely worth it, especially if bought at a discounted price.
