Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition

For all of those coming into Fallout New Vegas from the Amazon Prime show, a fond howdy and hello to you all! FOR PC USERS AFTER 03/20/2024 - Direct X 11 & windows 11 do not play nice with Fallout New Vegas. You will hard-crash to desktop after the opening indefinitley unless you change the API New Vegas uses. You will need to have to install a mod to change the API to vulcan to get it to work (This will not disable acheivments, you are safe there,) this will cause some jank (stuttering in the opening cinematic.) The essential mod here is DXVK the on the nexus. Fallout New Vegas has always had some jank to it so this is just the normal kind of kick in the head you get used to with it. As for the game itself, what isn't there to love about a cyborg mutant mailman hot on a case of revenge after getting a free extra pair of holes in their skull? Weird robots - check Fun, sad, and meaningful companions - check A coherent storyline critiquing the sins of imperialisim - triple check DR MOBIOUS! - So many checkmarks that you'll need a checkered suit to get them all in order. There's a ton of stuff out in the Desert, if you bother to look. It might seem barren but looordy is it not. Regarding the DLC's - they all can play wildly differentley than the base game. Dead money in particular. It is not as fast paced and you are very likely to die your first time in there. Remember, the point of that little piece of hell in the Mojave is letting go of the past (and that past includes your bad hoarding tendencies.) Best to go into them with that in mind.

I purchased this game on GOG because my PHYSICAL copy had to be downloaded on steam. I'm happy to now actually own one of my favorite games without DRM. It doesn't matter if you're into RPG or not, this game is a blast so long as you can get past some of the bad bugs. It's brilliant and a masterpiece of game!

Track down your nemesis, and decide his fate. Train military misfits to survive in battle, or lie about your skills and let them suffer the consequences. Save a dictator's life from a brain tumor, or let nature take its course. Work with the status quo, or against it. .308 or surplus ammo. FNV's greatest strength lies in the weight of every decision you make. It's not just about shooting the wrong guy and having other guys come after you - your dialogue, your actions, and how, when and with whom you do them carve your story. And it should go without saying: mod the game and make your story truly yours.

A flawed masterpiece that had alot going against it but rose through the muck to be one fantastic game. Its certainly not perfect and frankly is relatively incomplete due to the short development but by god does it try and have alot of love in it which is something you cant say about many AAA titles out there recently. The people who made this were responsible for Fallout 2 and after having the franchise taken from them by Bethesda couldn't finish their own version of Fallout 3. So once given a chance to make another Fallout they utilized what time they were given to finish what they could and say goodbye to their franchise and they went out with the bang that was Fallout: New Vegas. Bethesda in all their infinite wisdom chose rather than work with Obsidian on a franchise they essentially made that they would shove it over to Todd Howard and his team who could not give less of a crap about what the original Fallouts were about making some incredibly superficial games with little to no substance that has split the fanbase. Essentially this is probably the last Fallout that will be headed by the people who knew and loved what the franchise was, despite all the crap Bethesda gave them when it came to development time, budget, and bonuses along with glitches and various other issues this game had on release it persevered. Resonating with fans enough to fix issues they couldn't Obsidian couldn't fix on their time and create one of the most vast modding communities I've ever seen. If you haven't played it you definitely should.

Without a doubt the greatest Fallout game, even compared to the first two. It's everything Fallout 3 promised to be and then some. This is easily the game I play the most. I've sunk around 1000 hours into this it, and will definitely sink hundreds more. The replayability value of this game is insane. How is it even possible to have a story so good, huge, and malleable all at once? The scale of the plot, map, and mechanics is ridiculous. Games like Fallout 3 make you think that if you want quanitity you have to sacrifice quality, but Obsidian is here to show you otherwise, bringing you one of the greatest and biggest video game plots of all time. There are four different major paths you can take in the game, three of which are basically their own games since you won't have the quests for the other two available once you've picked one. And this is all besides the absolutely RIDICULOUS number of locations, most of which has its own little plot, the handfdul of companions, each of which has its own plot, and the thoroughly excellent and huge DLC, all of which takes place on new maps. The number of weapons and items in general, different solutions to problems, and different enemies and characters is mind boggling. All this is wrapped up in DEEP RPG gameplay that heavily fecilitates actual role playing and a beautiful and thought provoking political plot. Play this game. Then do it again. And again. And again.
