Interesting

It has taken me many tries to try and complete a Bethesda game in general. So far the only one I've managed to complete is Fallout 4. I constantly hear about how 3 and NV are supposedly the best so I have tried to play them both on console and PC. Well, console is alright, but I just couldn't really enjoy it. I tried playing this on Steam and it did NOT want to play and was a nightmare just to launch. Finally, after all this time the GOG copy (of course) plays just swell. (Thank you GOG) Fallout 3 is a very entertaining game, if a bit messy? Trying to put a linear storyline in an open-world game without limiting where the player can go and when makes for some immersion breaking experiences. I accidentally skipped a majority of the major storyline and was somewhat disappointed. Either way I just kept exploring and eventually reached the level cap, which in my opinion, shouldn't exist and is the biggest detriment to this game in it's entirety. There is really nothing worth doing in the wasteland after you realize you can't level up anymore. I digress, the game is very good and a staple of Betheda style games. However is somewhat falls short of coherency and consistency as with others of their like.

the Fallout with a nuclear Fallout feel

This was my first fallout, and I loved every bit of it. The intro is beautiful, the capital wastelands fell like a nuclear wasteland and this game is packed with details. The map is smaller then Skyrims map, but exploring it felt more rewarding. Graphics are a bit outdated, but hey, it is a nuclear wasteland and the bleak green/grey looks actually good and matches the atmosphere. After this game i bought FNV, and i think it was the right order to play them. F03 first for the intro and fallout world, and then FNV for the gem it is, and last F04 for the better graphics.

Crashes on launch

I've never been able to play this through GOG as it crashes every time I start a new game.

Not a true sequel

If you have played fallout and fallout 2, too bad. You are probably already spoiled with fantastic legends and a lot of interesting NPC interactions. The Fallout 3 lacks all of that and are more focused on exploding body parts and running around with big weapons. No intriguing side quest that you have to indulge in just because you want to experience the outcome. In Fallout 3 you enter a building and some soldiers start to shoot at you. After a while I just left the building, tired of killing without a cause or some clue of why they were so hostile. No information could be found on what they were doing there, or a reason why I should care cleaning out this particular building. Boring, to say the least. NPC interaction lacks all the charm of the two previous games. I spend, for example, a lot of time humouring the ghoul Harold, just to get everything about his past. So what do they do in Fallout 3; they turn him into a tree — sigh… It is not a bad game as such, just not a true sequel to the Fallout 1 & 2.
