My first Fallout game, was Fallout 3. I know some people consider that a sin to gaming itself...but it's the truth. When I got myself on to GOG and saw the old fallout games here, I said to myself 'it's time to give the older games a go'. I have no regrets. I have been in love with fallout since that faithful day I played FO3 on my PS3 back in 2008 I believe? I've played all the others put 100s of hours into them, and now it's Fallout's turn. At first I admit it, I was having a bit of a hard time getting used to the very different method of control and such. At first it seemed my characters were all getting rekt, but finally I did figure it out. Seems it's a bit different even how the skills work here than in Fo3. Even during my time of 'trial and error' I was still into the game. The story telling was great. The vibe felt right...and the music is top notch. I will say one thing I disliked was the time limit you are given in game, it can seem overwhelming at first, but it's not as bad as it seems. Once you get the hang of it you can handle it no problem. Great game. If you like Fallout games trust me, it may control different and be 'old' but it's still a Fallout game! Fallout games are fun regardless of their age.

This game really shines in the setting and story. It's bleak and unforgiving in the best way possible. Fallout is not trying to be your friend and you will die many times before you get the hang of skills and combat. No comedy here, this story takes itself very seriously, which is something modern gaming seems to be unable to do. I give this game 5 stars on story, setting and characters. Now for the flaws. There are many bugs which will mess up missions for you. Many of the skills are somewhat pointless since they're rarely used, and on your first playthrough you can easily find yourself stuck due to your choices on what to upgrade. It doesn't do feedback too well and I was often left wondering why something had happened or what exactly was expected of me in certain missions. Make no mistake, this is a difficult game but I love that about it. It really nails the post-apocalypse wasteland feel by making you feel incredibly fragile until later on in the game. If you even have a passing interest in RPGs, I would recommend you play Fallout as it's a classic and the story and atmosphere are worth putting up with the minor irritations. I found out after playing that this is a censored version which removes children and changes certain language. While it would have been a joyful moment had I been allowed to fire rockets at a bunch of helpless children, I don't feel like the story was negatively affected by their ommission. There are plenty of adults, mutants, animals and robots that you can mercilessly slaughter in cold-blood which the censors are quite happy about.

Along with Fallout 2, Fallout is absolutely till this day (25 years later) in the top five RPGs of all time, hands down. Words cannot properly express the incredible game design, art, music, atmosphere and gameplay innovations that encompasses the original and the sequel. Having played these games when they were released, 25 years later they are still completely in a league of their own.

I own only Fallout Classic. But since you can't review Fallout Classic anymore on GOG I will do it here. Where to start? I've completed it a couple of times now. And I still consider to replay it one more time. Fallout is masterpice of atmosphere. Postapocaliptic dirt detailed art style, bloody good soundtrack, feeling that never being the same again and that real emptiness which you discover on a radioactive desert will make you almost sad. I always was fan of more colorful, fantasy, peaceful worlds. But I have part of me, which sometimes came out, where things like Alien, Judge Dredd, Diablo and Fallout are. Somehow those hopeless, dirt, heavy and scary visions attract me against my will. It's a very solitary experience, when new world just made its first step after nuclear war. Where your road, journey is almost more important than the final goal of the game. Where exploring new reality and discovering artifacts of the past is sometimes more important than your health or even life. And again compare to its sequel that game is very similar with a vibe to first Baldur's Gate (compared to its sequel). Smaller, less contents, less epic, but more truthfully, deep and personal.

I have two Fallouts I hold in high regards. The other one, is my personal favorite but I'd say the first game stands out above the rest. Many people will say Fallout 2 is superior and it is only in a few ways. Fallout 2 does improve on some UI and companion options and has a lot more content but it misses some of the original's feeling, designs, and ideas. Fallout feels absolutely eerie and mysterious. The combat is alright at best but the death animations really help spice it up. The world leads you through wonderfully and you'll visit very interesting places. The amount of options and ways to do things in this game are awesome and most of the time satisfying. The time limit for the first major quest is really not that bad as long as you're not just running around on the world map pointlessly for a long time. Fallout 1 is a classic and in my opinion, should be played by every person who loves cRPGs at least once. Oddly, the goodies that used to be given with this game are not longer present if you buy the game now but you can find all of the old goodies somewhere else. Hopefully GOG can get the goodies back anyway for convenience.
