False advertisement

Just giving this out as a warning. This is one of my favorite childhood games and would easily be given 5 stars. However, the version GoG is offering has been mangled beyond recognition. First of all, it is not multiplayer. The GoG version has disabled the ability to refresh your server list, making it impossible for you to join other players. You can still host a server and others can join that server, IF they are running a non GoG version or replaced the necessary files in the games folder. So advertising the game as multiplayer is a complete lie, they had to specifically go out of their way to disable the multiplayer feature. Second, the textures are ALWAYS in very low quality and you can't change it. Unless once again, you go replace certain files in the game folder. And they have also screwed with the camera handling, the vertical scrolling speed is sped up to a point where you literally only have 2 positions. You can turn the sensitivity down, this will result in having an ok vertical scrolling speed and a non existant horizontal scrolling speed. You're better off just downloading a free copy somwhere if you're really interested in experiencing the beauty of this game in it's fullest and also want to give multiplayer a try with a friend.

Amazing

This game is a true masterpiece Played it 3 times through over 10 years period, still keeps the gameplay tight. Never played an RPG with simillar gameplay experience even now. Plus the story, dialogs and just unique atmosphere. This is an amazing game. One of the best out there.

Uncommon development and crafting system

The game offers to the player a lot of choices when it comes to character development - each skill acquired or improved makes it harder (more EXP is needed) to improve the other abilities. You can't master everything but depending on your gaming style you can focus on selected type of weapons, areas of magic or become more versatile. The stealth is a must if you want to beat the game. The most exciting part is crafting - you can disassemble almost every item and recover the recipe to replace the material with the better one (i.e. thin skin with hard skin) in order to acquire more efficient item. And that's not all! You can improve your equipment with certain spells (i.e. heal wounds when you become hurt or weaken enemy when your weapon strikes). Although there are not so many spells available and some of them are almost useless (i.e. damage output is very low) you can create more potent, longer lasting, mass-affecting enchantments. The interesting thing about the game is that you mostly collect materials and valuable trophies instead of items. There is a second game from the series "Lost in Astral" or something like that but available at the moment only in Russian. Any chances for bringing it to GOG?

20+ years. I'm still there

Well, this might be one of the best games ever made by a Russian company. Literally. RPG without classical leveling system? Check. Decent graphics for 2001? Check. If you are a Russian speaker, then I'll hear a dozen of voices of popular actors. If you want to spend some time there, you are free to do it. If you want to speedrun it, you can do it within 2-3 hours. If you want to go hardcore, then high difficulty mode is your option. Unique ideas for a game made more than 20 years ago, really. You'll 100% need a manual to play it - otherwise there is plenty of space when you can make the process more difficul for you in a long-term - but every year I spend a couple of evenings to play it from the beginning till the very end.

It will always be my faforite RPG.

As with your first love, nothing can ever be better. It was my first RPG, but it was also a very advanced game for a time. 3D game with fully voiced dialogues. Interesting and original story. I can still remember every character. Can you say the same about many modern games? Modern gamers will probably never understand it anyway, but oldtimers like me will.
