Never knew that I was that Evil...

The good: This game delivers on the premise that you are an Evil Genius. From being able to execute minions at will to filling your base with stolen loot to an overly complex overarching scheme to take over the world (mwa-ha-ha-ha!), this game has it all. Design your base in such a way that it aids your Evil Schemes. Traps and torture devices range from the classic (lasers and pits) to the silly (the mixer still makes me giggle maniacally). You also hire Henchmen, (almost) invincible minions that can add powerful extra abilities to your arsenal. The music fits the game perfectly, reinforcing the idea that yes, you are the villain in a spy movie. The meh: You must have patience. Base building takes time. Stealing takes time. Training and hiring minions takes time. In other words, everything in this game takes time. One of the best strategies I found was leaving the game running in windowed mode and watching youtube videos while waiting for heat to die down and minions to train. If you are looking for an action-packed, thrill-a-second spy shooter, this is not it. The frustrating: You must have patience. Try to do too much at once and you will suddenly find your island flooded with Agents of Justice, getting all up in your base, killing your minions, blowing up your stuff, and generally messing up your plans. If there are are any Super Agents unlocked (think James Bond), they'll show up too. And Super Agents don't play as nicely as the regular Agents. This is a game that you will likely fail on your first try. And your second. And your third. I lost count of how many times I restarted this game due to my own impatience or poor base design. This game has a learning curve. But - when I beat the game for the first time, it felt awesome. And then I started looking at what other people had done with the game (Wind traps are way more useful than they seem, just sayin'), and just had to play again...

BUGS and I can't say that enough

BUGS BUGS BUGS and more BUGS There's a reason why games like these no longer exists and some of that is because it's usually a bug fest. It's a GOOD game if you can put up with it but overall it's not worth the aggravation because of all the game breaking bugs. -minion drops vial or suitcase, there's a good chance no one might come back for those items and it winds up on the ground forever and in a room that you can never ever demolish thus having to go into the game files and deleting it -tedious world map screen if you have different types of minions. If you try to assign minions when zooming into the mission icon and assign the req'd minions, it will drag your minion scroll back to the middle and you'll have to click all the way back again. It's carpal tunnel heaven. Stupid world map UI. -missing quest NPCs. They might show up if they feel like it. -Tons of game breaking bugs: Minions won't leave the boat, some areas won't delete regardless if you have a tunnel access from the other side or all essential items/NPCs have been safely removed, Tourists getting stuck and becoming invincible locking down a room and so many more. Conclusion, It could be a good game but it depends if you want to rummage through the game files to delete bugged objects on the floor or to use cheats to blow up stuck NPCs (if it even works at all), I barely made it to island 2 because of all the insane bugs. With all these bugs I should hire an exterminator. Not worth the annoyance.

Nyahahaha, I shall DOOM the World!

Very similar to Dungeon Keeper 2, but thematically different. You blast out an evil lair in the side of a mountain, and eventually a hollowed out volcano, where your choice of Evil Genius recruits villains, puts workers to work and trains an army.

Best game of the Genre, period

Evil Genius is exactly that...a brilliant game where you play the bad guy/gal. I would advise finding the mod pr config file adjustment that lets you have 100 people in the base and not rushing to start your second base (2nd half of game), otherwise the game can get pretty difficult. Tip = research everything you can on the first island and make sure you start destroying sections of your base to get money back before you leave for new zone. The amount of strategy, base-building, action, jokes, traps and even which boss you play are all very good and entertaining. The ONLY regret is that once you complete the campaign, your only option is to play again either with a different "evil genius" or on a harder difficulty. I also with there was a sequel. This game is simply a MUST BUY for EVERYONE. It is that good and truly, one of a kind!

My favourite evil strategy game

I had played Evil Genius many years ago, so when I saw it on GOG I need to buy it. It's nearly 40 hours of good fun. You build you secret base on island, prepare traps and wait for agents of justice to get killed in them. In meantime You need to plan your evil way to dominate the world. In addition, this game have a very good sense of humour (such as torturing Your prisoners with Michael Jackson dance). This is for sure one of my favourite strategy games on PC. You need to get it!
