I won't add much more than what jBrereton said, quite accurate. My addition: if you ever played Magic the Gathering and enjoyed it you'll love this game. Although the RPG elements add something to it. This is my second time through it (I actually purchased the original game, sill have the disks, couldn't get them to work on my Win7 box) and can't stop playing! Thanks GOG!
Etherlords & Etherlords 2 are definitly in my top 10 games of all time. Amazing strategy, inspiring story and gameplay is co "oldschool" and game by herself is very original, specially creatures. It's amazing game, one of the best from old games. (Forgive me for my english).
if you liked etherlords 1, stick with that. this is half the game for the same cost. if your hero dies, then you lose, meaning that you only have 1 life. make one mistake and you are toast. i understand why there was never an etherlords 3.
A friend of mine got me hooked on this game. It's similar to Magic the Gathering, but on the computer. Anyone that enjoyed the original Magic game for the computer, Shandalar, would enjoy this as well. One of my old time favorites.
If you ever wanted to experience a card game without the financial stress, Etherlords 2 will suit you nicely
