Earthworm Jim, spineless superhero, wriggles back into action as the Groovy Guardian of Goodness in an incredible journey of cheese-curdling proportions. Left unconscious by a massive cow-induced blow to the head and clad in his indestructible, high-tech super suit, Earthworm Jim continues the battle for truth, justice and well aerated soil. He sure is going to need your help to guide him through his 3D fun-house of a brain.
But beware, the is an evil lurking, a presence in his mind, a dark unseen force at work - Jim's brain is a dangerous place!
In the game you can enter Jim's psyche where he comes face to face with his own fears, happiness, memories and fantasies. Each environment has games-within-games, ludicrously large levels where you go wild pig-sliding, grandma wrangling and much more. You will face the weird enemies like Psycrow or the Disco Zombies. Explore any area you choose while keeping the trigger ready for action.

It's an okay premise, with lots of callbacks to the original games, but it lacks the creativity of the originals.
The controls are awkward, the jokes are fewer and farther between, and the precision platforming is out the window.
It's still enjoyable to explore and see what the developers were shooting for. I can't help but think that this game would have been not only acceptable but good had they just spent some more time refining it.
Still, it is an interesting piece of gaming history that I'd feel incomplete without having played... but I didn't bother to pay it through to the end.
The game is not bad because of lack of controller support or because of bad camera controls. Neither of these things is remotely true. Camera and Controller works fine. What makes this game bad is the dang marble races. What makes this game bad is collecting marbles, and having to do so in one life . That is what makes this game bad. IF there had been proper boss fights instead of these silly marble fights, perhaps Earthworm JIm 4 would not have taken almost 20 years to make.
I own this on the N64.
This doesn't have the same humor or charm as the originals (Earthworm Jim 1 and 2, which you can get here on gog, by the way). There are a handful of gags that are genuinely funny to me, but overall it doesn't save the game. The gameplay itself seems pretty average to me, and sometimes a little frustrating.
You'll probably get your money's worth out of this game, but only just. There's better games here on gog you could spend your money on, in my opinion.
As a huge Earthworm Jim fan, I can confirm this game is utter garbage. Instead of following the video game series, this game is based on the cartoon version of "Earthworm Jim". The slime character which used to be snot coming out of your neck in EWJ2 can suddenly talk for some reason, the fridge jokes are overused and Peter Puppy stars as a big decapitated head inside a huge tube in Jim's mind. This is all he gets.
The levels are bland and boring, with absolutely no connection at all to the Earthworm Jim universe. The first world is a barn, the seoncd a fast food island, the third is a horror house and the last is a deserted canyon. Most of these worlds are incredibly empty, which is why the developers added collectibles (marbles and udders) and a swarm of enemies to hide it. After collecting and killing everything, you will start to notice how empty these levels really are.
Every boss battle is done by "Pork Boarding", where you slide on a pork and collect marbles by shoot ing the bosses to make them drop the marbles. This is quite a challenge, as you've got to collect absolutely EVERY marble while dodging enemy missiles. This is extremely repetitive. Expect each boss to take 1 hour at least.
The humor itself is very dark and doesn't really fit the E rating it was given. Every character you help gets crushed (and killed) by a fridge, you decapitate cows by throwing a bloody meat axe at them (with a realistic death), you "kill" Elvis (yes, THE Elvis) by grinding him into a burger and you shoot old ladies and babies. I am not kidding. There is also a lot of gross out moments, like a river made out of c**p and people puking on you. There is even a mild yokel swear in there (Dayaaaam!)
I love Earthworm Jim 1+2, even the HD version was good. But this was dissappointing. It took me 12 hours to finish and every hour was painful. Play this if you are an ultra hardcore fan, but stay away if you have no good childhood memories of this belovable characters.
First off, the game is perfectly playable on a keyboard. There are also camera controls which 90% of the people seemingly just ignore. Use them and you have a surprising amount of freedom with the camera. It's not nearly as bad as the claims are. At least to me, controls were absolutely not an issue and anyone who played games in the 90s/2000s should do fine.
What is bad though is the saving system and bosses. Basically, you have to 100% a level in a single life. Dying even once resets the level and the collectibles except Golden Udders completely. Which means you have to learn the level, the jumps and everything and then perform it flawlessly in one go. The levels are luckily not that long, but expect to replay some levels a LOT of times. Because you will. The game starts somewhat easy but right in the 2nd world, you will be required to perform several nearly pixel perfect jumps in a row and failing just one means instant death and a fast trip to the start of the level. The game also loves inescapable death pits. The lives system is also basically useless as the level just restarts whenever you die. If it at least allowed you to continue from mid-level, it would have been something but no.
And if you do make it through the levels, then come the bosses. Which is probably the single worst part about this game. I would bet that about 9/10 people stop playing the game at the boss of the 2nd world. Because he's so incredibly cheap, annoying and unfun to try and beat that you'd rather say "F THIS" and drop the game. All the boss fights are also based on the same (pretty annoying) gimmick.
The soundtrack has several bangers in it but unfortunately, there is no way to control the volume and some tracks are obnoxiously loud.
But even through all of this, it's just old-school platforming goodness. At least a basic save system would have made it a bit more enjoyable, but those are the joys of very old games.
Giving it a decent 7/10. Fun, but with some major annoyances.
