Solid effort with typical Aspyr downside

I have really no idea why the score is so low. This is one solid effort which runs and looks better than the Complete version that was released on GOG years ago. I spent in NWN2 Complete 286 hours and I will never come back to it because Dungeons & Dragons Neverwinter Nights 2 Enhanced Edition is just a superior version. The questionable controls have been fixed. While you have still 3 camera modes, the only mode you should use is strategic mode while changing camera movement to WSAD and checking FREE CAM. With this combo you will have the controls you are used to from, for example, Dragon Age. Now the controls are much tighter and precise. Also, this is not a remater but an enhanced version of the original release. For a project like this it is actually enough to have better AA and much sharper textures. The game look definitely better than the old version as I have both installed and compared. Yes, there are still some texture flickering which they will hopefully fix. Neverwinter Nights 2 is the only oldschool CRPG that got to the quality level of Baldur's Gate 2 and with its great expansions this enhanced collection is a definitive version to play those gems. The only downside is what is actually pretty typical for Aspyr. I just hate how they cannot do a nicely looking and compact UI. I just hate their approach to enhancing UI -> bigger fonts. Yes, small fonts are not good for eyes, but if you make the font bigger and the windows not as big, the original compactness falls apart as now you have to scroll the menus up and down while originally you could see all the menu elements immediately. Also the main menu UI was much nicer in the OG. That is why I rate this enhanced edition 4/5 despite the fact the games are 5/5.

missing some basic QOL

While the game is nicely running on the modern system and a great throwback, it has some issues that are very basic, like when saving a game in the same slot it tries to overwrite the original namke with the location instead of letting you keep the name you entered or the inability to assign camera rotation buttons in stratregy mode, or that the camera speed is too fast even at the lowest setting. I hope these are patched soon.

A solid update to a CLASSIC title.

This overhauled version does not include anything new really content wise. That being said, if you've never played it before this is a great way to get it with all the DLC. It is much more visually pleasing than the original and runs great on modern rigs. There are a few bugs here and there but it was only released a couple days ago so I imagine these things will be addressed by the devs as they come up. NWN2 was a solid sequel to the original Neverwinter Nights. The campaigns are engaging and fun and the title boasts the ability to create custom modules and run your own games in them with friends. That part alone is worth the download. I played custom modules with friends in both NWN and NWN2 and it was a blast. Hopefully this remastered version will bring in some new folks who want to experience Neverwinter Nights 2 multiplayer.

A good remaster, with minor caveats

If you have already bought the Diamond Edition of the game, downloaded every fan patch imaginable, use unofficial private servers to play the game with your friends, and/or use an old gaming PC to play games prior to 2010, then there is no real reason to purchase this game a second time. But, I love this remaster so far. Don't get me wrong, I have issues with Aspyr, but the fact that we now have official online support with crossplay compatiblity between consoles and PC, surprisingly good (if not slightly finicky) controller support, higher resolution support, access to all official DLC and even backwards compatibility with officially endorsed fan mods (Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale work well), I can't see how this would have been better implemented without just straight up remaking the whole thing. Also, if you are having issues with the camera, please read through the options carefully. The camera settings in the first tab are seperated via "Camera Mode", so you will have to switch between sub-categories to fix the camera speed and zoom functions for each mode of play. Plus, it's $30. $22 if you already own the original. Anymore than that, and this would have been an immediate pass from me.
