Good thing this is a season pass...

I must say, that it is a good thing this is a season pass. This game is short. By short I mean, two hours at tops. Yes, there is a lot of replay value, but please read what I have to say. I thoroughly enjoyed the previous two games of this saga. The second, though burdened by terrible controls and glitches, was my favorite. However, this game fails to follow through with any wonder; it fails to invoke any curiosity in the player. What is good? Sound. The sound in this game is absolutely amazing. The music and the voice-overs are beautiful. The story? It's okay. It's nothing spectacular. I found more enjoyment listening to the quips of each character than I did in the story (the knock knock joke was great). What is bad? Well, lets just say there is a LOT. The controls in this game are terrible. I could not find a way to change keybinds. Google resulted in a forum post by the devs that if you want to change keybinds you have to make registry changes. So, I tried my controller. Nope, same problem. Not all of the buttons function. No matter what I do, I cannot get my journal to open (among other necessary functions). Save? Save and exit features only (is this 1999?). Furthermore, the game offers no explanation for controls at all. The little option wheel? No explanations. You basically have to click every single button for every puzzle. Worse is sometimes items just disappear from your inventory. This game is a fine example of illogical puzzles in an adventure game. No puzzles make any sense, especially puzzles that involve using your "skills." After using the skills, you can see how they MIGHT be logical. However, before use, there is no way of knowing what each skill will do to an object. The mindreading skill? Can't use that on inanimate objects, yet at one point you can read a lightbulb. Each skill produces different effects and you never know which will do what. This game is a terrible adventure game. It's a good story, but a terrible game.

I g ⃠t this game free f ⃠r summer sale stuff. The writing feels like a 12 year ⃠ld's fanfiction. There is c ⃠nstant unskippable n ⃠nsense animations, such as silent establishing sh ⃠ts with n ⃠ real value. The w ⃠rd c ⃠unt could EASILY be halved with ⃠ut l ⃠sing any pl ⃠t. There are c ⃠nstant rehashed explanati ⃠ns and exp ⃠siti ⃠ns t ⃠ different characters THAT ARE ALL THE PLAYER. Every character the PLAYER plays needs t ⃠ re-learn every thing (especially blatantly ⃠bvi ⃠us things). Part 5 thr ⃠ws in arbitrary techn ⃠babble (where they d ⃠n't settle f ⃠r 'it's magic' and 'nobody knows') that when they realize they needed an ending. A few characters are interesting and well written. M ⃠st are awful. S ⃠me ⃠f them (big bads) are basically named extras with l ⃠ng unskippable scenes and rehashed redundant dial ⃠gue. At least ⃠ne character is named ⃠NLY by the UI (bef ⃠re being met) and p ⃠ssibly never again? Pros: The voice acting is pretty good throughout, the areas are really interesting and are reused well. Runs better than some Telltale stories. Cons: Middle school pad-the-word-count forget-perspective-midway-through. Way Amazing Story-wise and Graphically

My playtime - 36 hours 17 minutes 6 of 5 must play. 5 of 5 great story great gameplay. 4 of 5 great story average gameplay. 3 of 5 average story great gameplay. 2 of 5 play only if it's your favorite genre. 1 of 5 play if you have nothing better to do. 0 of 5 play if you're a masochist. -1 of 5 avoid. Dreamfall Chapters: The Final Cut score is 4 of 5.

Totally fantastic!!

I've been a TLR fan ever since the first one came out 1999. I played that version with Swedish language over and over and over again. Then Dreamfall came out and I got a little bit scared I would not like it because i wanted to keep playing it in the swedish language, but I forgot about that quite fast and while playing Dreamfall (2006) I got to tears and the feeling was totally perfect. The puzzles was not that hard though, it was more like watching a movie, but a very good interactive movie. Once it was over I just wanted more. It was so many question marks in my head so I started googling for next episode, if there were ever going to be one. I read quite early that there was supposed to be a Dreamfall Chapters, but they stopped working on that and the project was put aside or something - don't really remember. Then thanks to kickstarter this was possible and I thank the gods for that! This game was more like an interactive movie as well, but I was still satisfied with the gameplay. If it would be too many puzzles and too many "go and look for something somewhere for a couple of hours and then look for the next thing a couple of hours and test everything with everything", then It would take ages to complete this. I think it was extremely cool to choose your own paths in the game which gives consequences for the rest of the game. Makes me want to play this over and over again. I'm a retro gamer, but this was one of the few newer games that I choose to play, and there is still hope. The magic was still in there! Wow, an extremely well made triquel to a fantastic game. It must be hard to come 18 years later and try to make a good continuation of a game, but they really succeeded. PLEASE! DO NOT MAKE ANOTHER ONE! JUST STOP HERE! KEEP THE FANS SATISFIED WITH THIS AS IT IS!

Book 1: A Weak Start, Saved by Europolis

"Dreamfall Chapters: Book 1" has a very weak beginning, a strong middle, and a mixed bag of gameplay mechanics, one of which keeps giving you spoilers. If it wasn't for Europolis, a fantastic cyberpunk city that feels incredibly alive, "Book 1" would have sunk The Longest Journey series. Firstly, the game opens with a spoilers ridden text intro that I recommend you skip (press SPACE). TLJ saga then continues exactly where it ended in "Dreamfall," with a very touching 40 second cutscene. My heart was pumping until the actual game started and the dialog was plagued by weak, cliche writing. "You have light inside you. Focus on the light and ignore the darkness." Followed by a trip to Arcadia, where everyone uses this melodramatic, Hollywood version of "LOTR" fake Medieval fantasy speech. What's worse, the game kept telling me when a dialog choice I picked affected the plot. One bit that could have been a real surprise in Book 1 is spoiled at the very start of the game! I don't know why the game developers chose this spoilers ridden approach. I was ready to quit playing 2 hours in, when suddenly I reached Europolis and the storytelling quality made a 180 degree turn. Characters came to life. Dialog dropped all cheesy overtones - became believable and funny, like it was in "TLJ." Zoe, for the first time since her introduction to this series, recieved actual personality and depth. The cyberpunk city of Propast was immersive and buzzed with life. It got me hooked. Gameplay wise, object selection interface is the best it's ever been. Usable objects simply become "highlighted" and interactive when you're nearby. Hearing Zoe's thoughts for every "choice" prevents you from misunderstanding it. It's true that puzzles are nowhere near as challenging as they were in "TLJ," but then, let's be honest, "The Longest Journey" isn't hailed as a masterpiece because of its puzzles. In the end, it took me 10 hours to complete "Book 1." It is a worthy addition to the series.
