interesting proposal.
Much room for improvement but the concept is good, several bugs, otherwise it was enjoyable, I think the length is fine but I expected more

Better Than Its Score
These are initial thoughts, not a full review. I have not played the Fatal Frame games myself, but I have wanted to. Also, I am a bit of a wuss when it comes to horror games. I enjoyed games like Resident Evil 4 and FEAR, but these are action games with horror elements. Horror games are another beast entirely. People talk about how bad the controls are - and they are not wrong. Still, it is harkening back to games on the PS1 & PS2 that had janky controls. It could very well have been a deliberate choice to wrong-foot players and make them uncomfortable. After all, this isn't an action game; it is a horror game first and foremost. Having limited ability remap the controls (I can't use triggers? Really?) is surprisingly effective at wrong footing the player. Also the camera swings around a bit too freely, but this can also be a deliberate choice as it requires the player to maintain cool. One thing this game nails, though, is atmosphere. Linda walks slowly but has a run function and cannot run while taking photos. The first level's setting is unsettling. Everything looks dirty and cobbled together, like nature is encroaching on the location as it crumbles. Linda appears to wake up in this place without much more context than the player. It gives me the creeps to walk around this house that appears to have been recently abandoned. All in all, I'm looking forward to spending more time in this world.

Doen't work on 4:3 screens
Glitch ridden game that does not really work with 4:3 screen so why have those resolutions avaialble. The 3 candle puzzle is impossible in 4:3 they only way to get it done is to switch the display and the game to 1280x720 even then you have the camera phot button to get the exact spot for the photo.

Une expérience prometteuse qui déçoit
DreadOut, un jeu que j'avais découvert grâce au Kiki Horror Show et à Squeezie et que je voulais aimer... mais qui au final m'a irrité au point de finir par le désinstaller définitivement. Quel dommage... tout modeste soit-il dans sa réalisation, il a pour lui de nous plonger dans un jeu de survie horrifique à la Silent Hill / Project Zero qui se déroule en Indonésie, proposant un cadre et une mythologie dépaysants et particulièrement appréciables. Certes le jeu ne fait pas des miracles avec ses textures et la modélisation de ses personnages oscillant entre le grossier et le moyen, mais ce qui fâche réellement est à chercher ailleurs. DreadOut est trop souvent confus dans sa résolution, le joueur ne sachant pas réellement ce qu'il doit faire ni où trouver les objets dont il a besoin, errant un peu inutilement. Les combats contre les fantômes et autres démons peuvent se montrer pénibles, la méthode pour en venir à bout n'étant pas toujours très claire, quand elle ne s'avère pas longue et fastidieuse. Subir des dommages entraîne d'ailleurs une inertie qui laisse parfois le champ libre aux ennemis pour frapper à nouveau. Si la mort n'est pas réellement sanctionnée, le retour à la vie n'est pas sans inconvénients : notre héroïne se relèvera dans l'au-delà et pourra avancer vers la lumière qui la ramènera à la vie... Sauf que celle-ci s'éloignera davantage après chaque mort. Lors des combats difficiles à négocier, ce sera vite insupportable. Avec le recul je dois bien reconnaître avoir pris plus de plaisir à regarder jouer qu'à jouer à DreadOut, et c'est bien dommage car le jeu avait le potentiel d'offrir une bien meilleure expérience.
