Leading you on a short and tangled leash
OK, so the war is raging and I'm told by my father to find my eldest brother and tell him to lead the troops to Ostagar, where father will join them later. And then, when I'm on my way to his room, whichever road I take the same guy corners me with a message, that my dog is messing up in kitchen, that my mother wants me to deal with this IMMEDIATELY, and that he is to make sure, I do. I can't get rid of him, until I deal with the dog. I can however wander through out all castle, get XP for opening different doors and stashes; I can spend time looting some probably pretty worthless things from sacks of grain and from some chests obviously not belonging to me (to which my mother-appointed guardian doesn't object); I can meet my mother and spend nice 10 minutes trading courtesies with her guests; I can even join the Taskmaster giving lesson to kids on my family's history and spend another 30 minutes doing so... the only one thing, that I can't do (except entering the castle's treasury, which is understandable) is to open the door leading to my brother's room, which stays magically locked until I deal with my dog at the other end of the corridor. Truly GREAT. I would have spent less time playing this game, than writing this review, if not for collecting all the facts mentioned above and making sure that, as I expected, the "Right click: Can't unlock" description on the door blocking me from seeing my brother indeed does magically change to "Right click: Open" once I get my dog and kill 7 or 8 giants rats, that he was after. Do I have to add, that the result of the "dog adventure" doesn't in any other way influence my meeting with my brother? Sadly, not the kind of magic, that I was expecting paying for this game :(

pc port is terrible
dragon orgins is great but the pc port is not. crashes often, texture bugs. can't reccomend unless you want to find fan made patches which I've found none. Since this is EA I doubt they will patcha neally 15 year old game as they can't even release new games like Jedi Survior to run well on pc. What should happen is a remaster retaining the combat system and bascilly fixing the game. My cocern is if they were to remaster the game they would try to wokafiy censor or uglyfiy the female characters in the game.

Overrated & tedious
I never understood thehigh ratings and endless praise for this title, there are a LOT of areas in the game that are just tedious. I played through it once, I will never do so again because of these three sections in particular: 1) the Fade. If you play a mage and want a certain outcome/specialization you will be forced to go into the Fade 3 times. These sections overstay their welcome and you're on your own 2) the entire chapter in the Tower of Mages (with a mandatory extremely long Fade section) is way way too long, tedious and boring 3) the Dwarven city and tunnels I also do not like the combat system at all (realtime with pause, passive combat) which plays kinda like Warcraft. The AI can be either set to on or off. You'd better switch it off, because your companions will run off into certain death, requiring you to micromanage them, so the devs should have gone turn-based the ONLY way for a party-based RPG. For a one time playthrough the game is pretty decent (there are far better titles out there, and no I don't mean Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 with the same garbage combat system). The story is quite good, the characters for the most part really lovable, but I would never ever play it a second time, even though the origin system gives you a different start based on your race & class selection.

Bland
Tedious rubbery MMO-like combat with an infuriating camera controls in a generic fantasy setting. Voice acting is good though.
