Whole package!

Ok, I love it. I have never played Doom64 before so I can´t compare it with original console version but this port runs flawlessly and looks great. For those who thinks that achievements matter - Yes, it even has in game achievements. Two minor issues: game has a few badly design levels (subjective thing) and some iconic enemies missing (but Mother Demon is a cool boss). PC Specs: Intel i5-4460 (3.2GHz), 8GB RAM,MSI RX 480 GAMING 4G, WIN 7 64bit Professional, SSD370S Transcend 128GB, ST1000DM003 Seagate 1TB

I really loved the original for n64 and this version is way better than I even remember the original being. Possibly because the mouse + keyboard works so well with it, it feels much more comfortable than the gamepad did. But also, this version handles high resolution screens beautifully. I fired it up on a 3440x1440 monitor expecting to have to tweak things but by default it looked GREAT. And another great surprise was that I installed it on Ubuntu 22.04 using regular WINE from the Ubuntu repo. It threw an error during install but still ran fine with no tweaking. I bought it knowing it was only supported on Windows and was willing to take the gamble but I am very happy that it happens to work!

Well worth it

Got it really cheap on the current sale. I never actually played this version of Doom on N64 but it's a lot of fun and plays really intuitively with a controller. Great if you want to kick back for some casual old school Doom fun as opposed to being propped up at a desk with the keyboard and mouse.

A warning to potato owners...

If you have a potato with Intel HD Graphics, know that there is a source port called Doom 64 EX+ (also known as Doom64EX-Plus), and it has support for OpenGL 2.1, so this will be the best option for you at the moment to run DOOM 64. =) Unfortunately, if you don't know, the Nightdive Studios version uses Direct3D 11, OpenGL 3.2 and Vulkan, renderers that don't work on potatoes, especially anything below Intel HD Graphics 4000. Therefore, the 5 stars are for id Software's DOOM 64 game, and not for Nightdive's port (I give 1 star for this one) which, instead of including people, pushes them away! Hey, Nightdive, real preservation is making software work on all possible hardware/OS, not just a few! I hope I helped you, who were disappointed to see DOOM 64 not working on your potato with Windows 7 64-bit. ;)

Good Doom game, falls short of originals

I love the Doom series, even perpetual whipping boy Doom3. Had never heard of Doom64 until I saw it on GOG so jumped at the chance to play it. To be brief. It's a good addition to the series, lots of fast-paced game play. The graphics have been changed and improved, and there's a new boss, a variant Imp plus an upgraded Pain Elemental which lives up to the name. Arch Vile , Chaingunner, Mastermind and Revenant are all absent. There's a new gun, it looks cool but its sound and attack is pathetic. It can apparently be upgraded if you hit up the secret levels, might make it tolerable. Altogether, this is fair- though the lack of Arch Vile and Revenant are very noticeable. The levels of themselves are simply not as good as Doom 1 + 2. They're decent, but- they feel more simplistic and less polished. Also the music! Where is it? All you get is some ambient sounds which are at times cool but, huge miss here. Sorry. If you've never played Doom. Go play Doom. If you played and love Doom 1+2 and want more of the same, then this is a fine choice.
