Don't Starve

This is a review on the vanilla of Don't Starve. This is roguelike game, so when you die you start over. In order to stay alive, you will need to gather resource to keep yourself fed, warm, sane, healthy, and gear up to fend off monster. There is a day/night cycle in the game which requires you spend your time wisely, and season will change the length of day cycle. One of my favor aspect of this game is that different monster will fight each other, and player can exploit it to help them in battle. Very few game does that. The major problem I have with this game is lack of progression. 3-5 hours into the game I am still doing the same menial task of gathering resource. You do gather faster by planting resource near a base you created, but beyond that you will be gathering at the same speed as your started. It really hinders other aspect of the game. If you spend daytime gathering resource it leaves you limited time to explore and exploring in the dark is very dangerous. If you spend daytime exploring you could end up with no resource for the night. If a fire started near your base it can burn down everything essentially you are starting over even though you didn't die. There is no counter to this except to build your base sparsely, but that increase your gathering time. To add on top of that the game would send monster that burst into flame when it dies. Inventory management is horrendous, because tools can't be lock to a slot. The inventory space is also limited. You can choose to increase the size by wearing a backpack but if you wear a backpack you can't wear armor. Since this game is roguelike you will want to prioritize armor over inventory space. With stuff you need to carry to keep yourself alive you end up with very limited space. When you find rare item you may end up having to swap out item or having to do a lot of back and forth between your base. There is a teleportation in the game but that happens very late in the game.

An awesome concept game, it just makes you want to scream in sooooo many ways. 1. The addiction of 'can I survive one more day' 2. The can 'I survive winter' factor. 3. The everything wants to kill me effect. 4. The 'even trees can come to life and squash me' annoying factor. 5. The I can't sleep and I think I'm seeing things (in both RL and game). A definitely awesome game!!!

S'il y a un jeu où nous pouvons faire mourir le héros de 1000 et 1 façon différentes... c'est bien celui-là. Car oui, on peut mourir de faim, de froid, par blessure, ou encore pour cause de folie (oui ,oui)... Ha ! Il en faut du courage et de la volonté pour survire dans ce monde hostile..! Les mondes sont tous différents car générés de façon aléatoire, et tout est paramétrable... enfin presque, car la langue du jeu ne peut se changer, que si l'on télécharge un 'mod' sur le site de 'Klei entertainment' (dommage mais c'est déjà ça). Aussi, entre les musiques (bien que peu nombreuses), le graphisme (qui n'est pas sans rappeler le style de Mr. Burton) et le "gameplay"... tout est au top (ou presque)..! Et n'oublions pas tout le contenu : les armes, les vêtements, les constructions, "l'aménagement"... mais aussi les ennemis, les saisons, les potentiels amis... etc... En plus, la manette de Xbox360 et reconnue sans problème..! Mais j'enlève une étoile, car le "SAV" de 'Klei entertainment' ne me montre pas l'envie de régler le 'bug' que j'ai (dommage).

From bees to shadows, everything will murder you. That's of course if you didn't already went insane or starved first. This game will not hold your hand, and while it might take it a bit too far, it will definitely provide you with a worthy challenge. Pros: cool atmosphere. Cons: very basic combat, you need a LOT of food. Rating: two weird rabbits fighting over a carrot with you. Been playing this for years. This is an incredibly in depth game. There is still new content coming out years after its release. It can be a little challenging to get into at first, but that's the point. This game will force you to think. The art style and music make this game seem like something Tim Burton would make, if he made video games. As I said, this game is not easy but you learn something new every play through. Everything in this game can help you at one point and hurt you at others. You think your safe living near a pig village? Just wait until the full moon and you will reassess that idea. The game doesn't hold your hand. So, if you like that kind of game then give this a chance.
