Cranking good game
I am not an avid rpg game player, found Baldurs Gate tedious etc which is heresy to most, so I avoided this title in my library for years. I found myself bored with my usual fare and hunted round for something different. Boy am I glad I did. This is my first play thru, no nostalgic review. Pros: Interactable open world. There is a whole lot to do, fiddle with, read flavor text, move and manipulate. I spent hours just finding books, collecting recipes and other frivolous activities. There are secrets to find, hidden caves to loot, and a great story to explore. I even took a few days to search out items to decorate a couple of houses to make them my own. Easy fast travel. Alchemy is intuitive and enjoyable. Upgradable armor/equipment. Lots of loot to find. Due to the rng nature of the game you can save, open a loot bag and if the equipment stats are not what you want you can reload the save and try again. Cheese factor or no, this can be enjoyable. Lots of skills to try out, with nice effects. skill books to buy from vendors to augment regular leveling points. Clever conversations with npcs who react to your reputation. More than a few very humorous moments. Lots of monsters with different skill sets and resistances. Beautiful art, I mean seriously, some of the assets were lovingly painted. The music was very good, and for once I didnt it mute it. Vendors employ an unique bartering system, it took awhile for me to understand it, at first I raged then I got it. The vendors dont always have cash on them but are willing to trade items for items. Cons: its very easy to be OP for the game, in fact I often didnt use spells as it made the game too easy. endgame becomes repetitious and grindy. Underwhelming end fight. Barter system with vendors can be trying. npcs need to react more to stealing. Fidgety targeting, minions impede gameplay often. VERY EASY TO BREAK QUESTS. recommend a walkthru to aid puzzles and avoid q breaking.

So much more than an JUST another Action RPG...
When an experienced gamer first loads Divine Divinity they're generally struck with a strong sense of nostalgia. This feels familiar. Click to attack and set about seeking the sweet loot... But as one plays further into the game, you come to realize that there is a lot more going on here than just a simple action RPG. Divine Divinity (even the game's title is an inside joke) manages to merge the very best of Diablo style gameplay with the depth of Ultima VII. Those mushrooms that you see everywhere soon become an important and non-renewable resource, that wild boar WILL kill you, and you soon learn to avoid packs of rampaging orcs instead of charging headlong into them into them expecting to garner sweet, sweet xps. This is a game that punishes you for NOT reading the quest text the NPCs deliver superbly, and just when you thing you're rich enough to afford all of the healing potions you could ever need, the game smacks you in the face with the very real and subtle reminder that merchants are not just deep, gold filled pockets, but almost real people with real bills to pay. Finding a bed to sleep in becomes a necessity and food actually matters... and both seem to be in short supply. Divine Divinity is the thinking man's ARPG, and it will punish you ever chance it gets, in only the most rewarding way possible. You will cringe as your quest giver dies in an unsolicited troll massacre. You'll buy empty potion flasks at every opportunity solely because they're an increasingly rare commodity. You will enchant otherwise worthless weapons and armor pieces simply because you must to survive. Every old-school gamer owes it to themselves to own this game and put some time into it, if for no other reason than the fact that this game absolutely REFUSES to hold your hand and guide you through it. This game demands your attention. This game demands your critical thinking. This game, quite frankly, demands your respect. Should you buy it and play it, you will be granted a very rare and poignant role-playing experience that is unforgiving and unremitting in it's delivery of action, skill building, and item usage. Buy this game and rest assured that you will not regret it. The only REAL problem that I can manage to find with this game is in it's shoddily created and executed sequels. Consider this a friendly and personal challenge to finish this game, and enjoy!

old school goodness.
A great old school Isometric RPG. The first game in the Divinity series is a really fun RPG. The gameplay is fast paced and the story is very engrossing. The only issue I have this game is that playing it on resolutions higher than 1080p is near impossible unless you have a magnifier glass. If you love RPGs then you need to play this.

Old graphics but a part from some glitch, really enjoyable.
