Deus Ex™ GOTY Edition

While I prefer the new game Human Revolution, this is a great piece of game history and well worth a lot of the praise heaped upon it. It's been a long while since I've played it but I can't recall finding many faults with it.

Good port, except for the default renderer made the game way too dark to play. But after a quick visit to the forums/google I was able to correct the issue. I never played Deus Ex when I was a child, and after completing my first run I realized that I was denied part of my youth. Flawless gameplay, immersive story and fun from start to finish. So happy I picked it up!

A very rewarding experience.

"The basic human need to be watched was once satisfied by God. Now, the same functionality can be replicated with data-mining algorithms.... You will soon have your God, and you will make it with your own hands." Play as a pacifist, murder everything you see, build ladders out of grenades, turn invisible and skip entire sections of the game, discuss social philosophy with AI constructs, build fortifications out of furniture, be a jerk, don't be a jerk, drop crates of dynamite on your enemies, and play basketball. This is still one of the best games ever made.

Deus Ex is something special, in all my years of playing video games (of which there have been many) I’ve never played anything quite like it.I love it's more grounded (stylistically) cyberpunk world and confidence in its understanding of philosophy and economics. The X-Files styled conspiracies which gave cause for all the drastically different but equally amazing locations the game had to offer. The fantastic music I still find myself humming to this day. And the freedom of choice not just in story but in game plays something that's still been unmatched.There’s a reason this is in a lot of people’s opinion the best game ever made, and it’s because it’s hard to say much bad about it. Oh it’s also given birth to some dank ass memes so there’s always that.
