Description
Desert Law is a new spin on the traditional real-time strategy that immerses players into a post-apocalyptic world where gasoline is the new world currency.

In Desert Law, player takes on the role of Brad as he begins his quest for vengeance against those who ruined his very existence. After returning to his home village and finding the settlement plundered and destroyed, Brad swears to bring justice to the memory of his slain village. Uniting desolated outcasts, he forges a fighting unit to strike out against bandit gangs, drawing allies under his banner.

Use your tactical skills to survive in the harsh wasteland as you control a group of heroes with different statistics, drive various vehicles and fight your way through the enemy lines.

Fast, Fun, A Little Shaky

This is like a strange but enjoyable combination of Fallout and KKND (Krush Kill and Destroy) where you command little teams of vehicles, travel to spots on instance maps, fight off bandits, and do other tasks. It's not open world: each mission is a self contained area, and each mission is pretty quick, but there's plenty to play and the old school isometric graphics do look great. The docked star is for the translation which is pretty loose. The cutscenes in the form of comics are very rushed in translation and sometimes have little to do with your missions at all. There's also a couple pathfinding issues like running into what seems like terrain you could knock over or the A.I getting confused. But overall, a nice speedy and appropriately dusty and a-punk-alyptic looking game. There's some nice quality of life additions here too thankfully, like a tutorial, the fact that heroes automatically leave exploding vehicles, and you always know where everything is thanks to the mini-map. Could have used another pass for translation and maybe a little more variety, but you can't go wrong with a car combat RPG, especially at the price.

It's ok.

It's a Blitzkrieg game with a plot under a Mad Max Fallout-esque atmosphere. There is no voice acting but plenty of dialogue boxes and plot, adding details to the missions or describing relationships between the heroes, the comic style transitions sometimes are just to add plot or story. The game is pretty much, like i said, a Blitzkrieg game, cars and trucks deploying and moving in real time. There are heroes in this game that must survive each level. If a hero dies the mission is lost and you have to reload or restart. When a vehicle is about to explode the hero leaves the vehicle but gets exposed in the heat of combat, and like in blitzkrieg games, heroes are like infantry, tiny weak units. Overall is fun, real time strategy with mad-max and fallout vibes. Is that kind of strategy game where after several hours you already know most of the hotkeys and start to try any kind of bold strategy.

Awaiting more ratings

Everyone who have reviewed before are all correct. You can see a couple pages of comics in the screenshots, and more screenshots of what look like Sudden Strike with muscle cars packed with big guns. This game is exactly what you think it is. I will share a few random thoughts. Desert Law is irreverent. It is B-grade, campy, and proud of it. Some of that poor English translation might be on purpose. It's never so bad that it makes no sense. There are almost 30 missions. The devs tried to make them different. There are missions where you control just one or two of your heroes, consistent with the plot that see your group split up. The game may be campy, but the devs made an effort. The pathfinding is as bad as others say. The good news is because you are not fighting seriously in WW2 with combined arms and a dozen tanks with asses made of paper, it won't bother you as much. As far as I remember, all the cars have the same armor everywhere. All the cars have tank controls and can turn on a dime. And you can pause anytime. It'll still bother you, so don't be shy about reloading. Oh, yes, Bred will get to have sex. Look forward to it. P.S., the Russian voice acting is pretty good. You can incorporate it into the English version of the game. P.S.S. I encountered no bugs or crashes.

Passable, Horrific Pathfinding

RECOMMENDED. Despite the issues with Starcraft I type of crippling pathfinding, unit AI issues and trial-and-error stealth missions, it is plenty good for its price point with and without discounts. The adult Mad Max story from a better era and game setting work and avoids being too serious. This sloppy RTS style was stale even back then (how many clone enemies to kill before it gets repetitious) is a minus. The infuriating unit AI issues (no defensive mode, stand ground removed after every movement, units veering off the main group for no reason and diving into minefields), pathfinding issues almost as bad as in Starcraft I and the annoying zero-tolerance stealth issues cost the game a star. Anyone giving a game like this 5 / 5 is insane, lying or has not played the game yet. If you want a five star game, get a free Ground Control. Oh and the game has weird technical issues. The radius view that is supposed to be shown with Alt+R does not work. When enemies out-range you, you have no idea where you are being shot at even if the terrain is a perfectly flat desert. This radius stuff becomes maddening with Mission 13 (?) where you are constantly being shot by turrets from the darkness for heavy damage and you cannot do anything until you trial-and-error the turret locations and RNG so that they do not hit you.

Pathfinding

I feel I haven't played enough of the game to comment on the story or mission design, but I surely can comment on the pathfinding. It is atrocious... even for its time. I played for an hour and I had so many issues with two cars blocking each other and just standing still. You might think they do that for a few seconds and then automatically fix the issue an move to the area they are told to. But HELL NO, they are just wiggling awkwardly for 10 seconds until they can move again... I know that old games on GOG have usually higher ratings than deserved, but this is nowhere near a 4.1 / 5 even if the rest of the game was excellent.
