Devil May Cry meets Castlevania

Gee, what to say. The game contols feel a bit clunky - when comming form Dragon's Dogma background. I like how the combat has both weight and speed, almost...comic book like ;) Anyway, controls are definitely overblown for K+M, and though I can tighten them a bit by binding few actions to the same keys they interefere with eachother defintely too often for my taste. 2- There's a lot of flashy moves - most not really impactful. IOW The usual stuff, nothng special - and few weapons - impactful on the other hand, in dealing with various obstacles, puzzles aso. The parrying is my pet peeve, no clear mechanics behind it, nothing apparent afer hours of playing at least. Have to know the timing for every attack, or else. Also blocking. OMG how I hate the way blocking works. And don't even get me started on aiming. Ugh. The boss fights often annoy the hell out of me due to being so structured and with 0/1 mechanics. But that's me, who likes to have freedom of choosing the way I want to deal with the issue - again, Dragon's Dogma background. But no, you play the devs want you to or get out. I like the gore, though I wish it was more "complete" - like, I see enemies being torn to pieces, but the blood is nowhere to be found. Only in cutscenes. Some. The plot is ostensible, in a comic book manner, pretty on par with characters' models. Nothing special to note apart from that it's there. The same with in-game economy, it's there and works. Oh, and technically the game runs flawless. I'd cut some time from splash screens here and there, but apart from this it's a PC game alright, purrfection!

An Excellent Mix

You won't see much of anything new in this Action-Adventure, but like Wild Arms before it, what it does is take elements from many other games and put them together into the ultimate experience. Many would compare it to a 3D Zelda, but where Zelda is lacking is mobility and combat. Darksiders takes that from the likes of Devil May Cry, so the exploration and puzzle solving feel really good. It doesn't stop there, either; there are tons of different sets of collectibles to find, but their numbers are very reasonable, and unlike your typical Collect-a-Thon, each item has value of its own; not just a prize waiting for you once you finally collect the whole set, though you'll usually get that, too. There are some light RPG elements, mainly upgrading your weapons by damaging enemies with them, and while that does get grindy at times, maxing them out is fairly reasonable overall, especially with certain exploits. I highly recommend those exploits, too, because where the grinding ceases to be reasonable is the shop; you're going to need a LOT of scratch to get everything. The controls are also a bit unresponsive at time, and sometimes the challenge has weirdly high spikes, but you know where the challenge isn't? Bad minigames. You'll have a Rail Shooter section, and a few places where Third-Person Shooter mode is highly recommended, and that's about it; would've been nice to be able to switch to mouse and keyboard just for those, but they weren't terrible. The music isn't that memorable, and the story is so GRITTY GRIMDARK that it's unintentionally silly at times, but never quite reaches the level of God of War. If you're into Action or Action-Adventure, I highly recommend this.

Really enjoyable, it flows well.

Very good game, mostly action with minimal RPG aspects. I have to say that from the very first battles it resembled to me something between Kingdoms of Amalur and the Prototype games, in the flow of movements, and the environments! Very addictive gameplay. I was barely able to stop at each gaming session. No side quests, though. You move towards the main mission, learning (and buying) skills and other stuff along the way. There are also many platform sections (climb here, jump there), many environmental riddles (levers, throw bombs, rearrange beams etc.) and some mini games. Nothing too difficult, but some can be annoying, especially after a few deaths and repetitions. A certain level of attention and precision (and thinking) is required. The plot is simple enough, but there are also some twists. From the very start you grow to sympathize with War and fight with him, as he is hunted by all, in his endeavor to clear his name. The excellent voice acting contributes too. There is manual saving, but it saves only your condition, not your location too. You’ll continue after the previous checkpoint (and not from where you may have reached), so I used the manual saving only when I needed to stop playing, after reaching a checkpoint. The checkpoints are very often, so no big deal. As a negative, I consider the fact that you are required obligatorily to return to most areas of the game to search for special hidden items for the main mission, just before the end battle (and as the blood courses through your veins, as you’re preparing yourself for the final battle)! Thankfully though, in all cases these special hidden items aren’t far from that area’s teleporter. Secondly, as you traverse the areas again, you can also overcome certain obstacles (to find collectables), for which you lack the necessary artifacts the first time you pass through there. I think that was needless. These artifacts should have been made available earlier. Nevertheless, VERY addictive game! 20 h for me

Imitation is Flattery

Darksiders one copies a lot of game mechanics from a vareity of popular games. From what I recall, you get a hookshot at one point, and basically a portal gun at another. I have no issues with this; As the saying goes "Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery". Darksiders itself plays like a more accessable Devil May Cry - speaking as someone who didn't finish those games, but got all the way through this game. From what I recall, the original unremastered edition doesn't work on my computer. The software is just too old. This version is almost completely flawless from what I remember, except for the audio being out-of-whack in some cutscenes. While I got bored of Darksiders 2, I am coming back to Darksiders 1 to play it again. It's quite fun.

Great game, warmaster has fixable issue

I thoroughly enjoyed the game, warmastered edition does look a lot better, the only issue I've come across is that the 1080p cutscenes in the warmastered edition are in 5.1 and for some reason will not sum to stereo, this means that while you hear dialogue within the cutscenes perfectly with headphones on, explosions and various sound effects sound kind of like removing the front left and right speakers from a surround sound system with strange panning (in game audio levels checked and tested with bluetooth headphones and wired headphones using my audio interface and motherboard audio, all had the same issue, in game audio was perfect) if you have this problem, look online and you can download the "fixed" videos and just replace them with the ones in the videos folder of the game (there are about 60 video files in the games video folder, the download will contain the 56 you need to replace, if you don't want to download them the same place that has the download will show you how to modify your existing ones, alternatively you could use the old 720p videos and they should work fine but it's a shame to not take advantage of the improvements the 1080p cutscenes give you would be 5 stars but it was irritating to have to mess around with it, probably fine if you're using a 5.1 system or surround sound headphones
