While the game play does sometimes suffer (one of the ultimate strategies, at least against the AI, is always "scout to get line of sight, then bomb with artillery"; the campaign missions become repetitive), it has many redeeming qualities. This game had a lot of firsts, including full 3d terrain, everything having an effect on line of sight, terrain type effecting speed of different units differently. Each of the sides are rather different from one another. There are many units and buildings that no other game I can think of have. This is also one of the most mod-able games ever released. What really makes this game still keep interest is its tweakable AI that you can assign to each unit. For example, you can set a unit group to "skirmish" to go out to find and harass enemy units, and set them to "low damage threshold" so they'll automatically retreat to a hospital when hurt. I've been looking forward to this coming to GOG. The CD versions never worked in modern operating systems well.
