this ist he best DLC / Expansion i ever played
with the new 2.0 update the game feels like a new one, but i need to say that the game should got released is this state
but still, one of the best games ever with the best dlc ever!
The 1 star is for the new alternative ending, specifically. Sadly I am only allowed one review, and of limited length.
So 1 star will affect the whole game, sadly, but you are the architects of this situation, GOG.
This DLC played for the most part like a fine gourmet meal. Served with a side dish of corpoduck.
This is part of a larger trend, not only in entertainment but big business lately, where the customer is no longer always right. In fact, the customer is always wrong, because large corporations know better.
What does this have to do with this DLC? Everything.
Avoiding spoilers as much as I can, I can safely say that this ending absolutely deconstructs the point of the game itself, as an escapist fantasy.
Worse, it does so in such a sanguine, forced manner that even Johnny Silverhand feels the need to point out that this isn't how he imagined things would go, and he has every right to, because that ending is character assassinating, gaping plot hole.
A gaping plot hole festering with the arrogance of a writer who, come what may, was dead set on a specific ending, even if it came at the expense of all logic, even if they hadn't earned it through their narrative merits.
An ending forced upon us. to serve whatever needs there were, the needs of whomever, except for the needs of the people who are actually paying for their games.
I'm pretty sure that if someone made a poll, the ask for that ending would be close to non-existent.
And you know what CDPR (and entertainment industry at large)? If I want to feel ordinary, I don't need to upgrade my computer and buy your expensive game. Think about that. I don't need YOU to feel like I already do. Might as well save myself some money...
That means I won't be standing in line to pre-order your next game. What you made me feel is utterly disrespected as a customer, and at least by the standards of the old world, that should be cause a for concern.
It probably isn't though is it? Not to you. You know better.
Overall fantastic addition to the base game. This is one of the few (if not the only) DLCs that I have ever paid full price for, and I do not regret it. I just had the DLC credits roll, so I do not yet know if there is any impact on the ending of the main storyline. I'll do my best to avoid spoilers.
Mr. Hands slots in perfectly as another fixer, and the gigs he "hand"s out are great. They feel more like side missions than the base game gigs do, and there is more nuance in the choices you are offered. These choices do not seem to impact the game as a whole, but provide some wonderful flavor. There isn't a truly right or wrong option on any of these; which is refreshing when compared to the base game side content. The side content of the main game, while I still do enjoy very much, did not have morally gray areas present in Phantom Liberty.
The next thing that stuck out to me was the new AutoFixer missions. These are enjoyable, if repetitive, and seem to go on endlessly. It's nice to have something still left to do after you've cleared the map while waiting for main/side mission timers. I'd rather be doing missions or exploring the city than just skipping through time.
I have only played through one of the available paths, but I found its resolution very satisfying. Without going into spoiler detail, I can't really say much more. The twists and turns were predictable, however. The one thing that really jarred me was the premise of this mission and some of the voice lines coming from V and Reed. No matter which background, V is a merc in NC; why would he care anything about loyalty (or treason) to the NUSA beyond its use as a potential resource for a cure? Some of the comments made by the cast, V included, just didn't make much sense to me in that context.
Aside from that and a few crashes, I thoroughly enjoyed this expansion on the base game, and I'm really looking forward to seeing Phantom Liberty affects the ending of the base game.
I only ever played it very recently, so I have no bitter taste in my mouth from the poor launch. I loved every second of this game. The side jobs and gigs were all fun and interesting. The music, dialogue, voice acting, combat, clothes, and vehicle designs all perfectly capture the Cyberpunk aesthetic and the vibe of the original tabletop RPG. Every inch of Night City was designed thoughtfully, and it's fun to just explore. No spoiler, but there was one part in particular that made my love for the game skyrocket. I had no idea it was coming, and it blew me away. Haven't been able to play anything else for weeks.
