This game has a decent retro-vibed production value. The characterization is light, the dialog is smile-inducing at times and overall, the game feels light (at worst, I'd say this is a PG-13 version of Cthulhu and this is stretching it). No serious attempt it made to reconcile the contradictions of the themes presented in the game which is probably for the best. The fourth wall is broken repeatedly in this game so keep that in mind if you dislike this particular trope. The combination of character abilities and equipment is adequate. There are no real forks in character development. You eventually get all the character abilities, but limited slots to "equip" them, meaning you might need to think for a minute or two about what abilities to "equip" for each character, though you are unlikely to lose sleep over it or make it the subject of a lengthy discussion with your friends. Technically, there are selectable mini-stories in the game that will determine your equipment, but given that you don't know ahead of time what the equipment does, the choice there is somewhat shallow. If you opt to replay the game several times (something I passed on), you might be able to strategize a little there because you'll know what the equipment does. However, not a lot of strategizing is required overall as the game is pretty easy (for a jrpg veterant anyways, you might struggle a little if you are a neophyte). So, I can't say any particular aspect of the game is outstanding or ground-breaking on its own, though they are serviceable and I believe the unique combination of themes (Cthulhu as a savior, Christmas, jrpg) is a worth a try, especially if you grab the game on a sale. The game is rather short so its unlikely to overstay its welcome.
