Crusader: No Remorse™

I've been familiar with Crusader series since Crusader: No Regret demo, but never played the first installment. The game is very playable even today apart from minor annoyances with controlling of Silencer - the game protagonist. I've played on Loose Cannon difficulty (3/4) and that difficulty level was fine for me. You are not handhold, enemies are deadly, but not frustratingly so. You must be careful, plan traps and ambushes, as you should be. Perfect. Some enemies in the later levels are able to one shot Silencer and this was almost frustrating, but these areas could be traversed when dealt carefully. Quick save and quick load are a must. I didn't liked lack of explanation (in manual or in game) of buyable items (like generators and batteries). That caused some confusion for me. Also one needs to be wary that game could be put in unwinnable state, so keep those multiple save points in use (do not rely on quick save only). For example, vital keycards are sometimes carried by soldiers. You can rob the corpse of the keycard, no problem. Unless you disintegrate/put him on fire and then you can't get the keycard. Some actors in cutscenes were laughable (like their performance), but it somehow added to the overall experience of the oldies action game for me. Mind that the videos are interlaced, which actually is terrible. Game has ok length, when you need more, there is always second installment - No Regret.

This game was an innovative blast back in the day, taking a sci-fi gun based approach to Ultima 8: Pagan meets Syndicate with the cheesy FMV cutscenes of Red Alert. And it worked!...back in 1995. It really did age terribly though. You know how awkward it felt trying to go back to circle strafing with the keyboard in Doom after you had played Quake? Now imagine keyboard circle strafing in an isometric action game where your only quick movement option is "roll to the side 10 feet at a time". It's a mess. This was one of the first game's the have "enemies running around screaming on fire". You could also remote control robot kamikaze robot spiders to blow up hapless office workers. It made you giggle evilly back in the day, but it would be left behind less than 2 years later in those departments by all three of the Build engine games (Duke Nuken 3D, Shadow Warrior, Blood). So you're left with a very primitive isometric Postal with awful controls that can't decide if it wants to be an action game or Twinsen's Oddessy. Sometimes it tries to be a platformer and O-M-G are those parts atrocious (the engine just isn't build for it). Get any of the Build engine games, Postal, or Syndicate over this. I was in love with this game for half a year back in the day, and even I can't play more than 5 minutes without getting bored now. Trust me.

Finally the Boba Fett game I always wanted.

I played it for the first time and finished the whole thing. Great game, great soundtrack. Very atmospheric and immersive production. Live actors cutscenes are great. Throughout the game, I felt like a total tough guy. A phenomenal experience. As for the controls, I recommend that you use the keyboard itself. After a mission or two, it will be second nature to you. In some time I will come back to it on a higher difficulty level. 5/5

In my opinion crusader no remorse is a good game and not a very good one. If possible, I would give 3,5 of 5 stars. It was mostly fun at level of difficulty weekend warrior, but I don't think, I would ever come back to play it a second time. It's a very long and much too repetitive game. Pros: - cool dos action game - nice sci-fi setting and story line - good synthie music, but I turned the music off, because of the permanent and absolute nerving loops. - good arsenal of weapons, but I couldn't use the grenade gun. I couldn't figure out, which mistake I made. Cons: - absolutely bad aiming in a shooter. You need to save after nearly killing each enemy to be able to go on. - I often got stuck, mostly due to a red sensor I coudn't see often standing directly in front of it. I had to study youtube vids. This game dates back to a stone age era with no help like that in this time period and lame analog modems for internet services. - you need very good eyes to be able to find key cards - only buy it, if you are a good keyboard acrobat Now, I am going to play crusader no regret, which seems to be worse and even more difficult in my first impression.
